An image processing sensor system functions as a standalone unit to capture images and process the resulting signals to detect objects or events of interest. The processing significantly improves selectivity and specificity of detection objects and events in a series of motions that may precede a patient who is at elevated risk of falling.

An electronic voting system includes a controller and one or more voting stations. The voting stations each have a liquid crystal display that is electronically configurable to present voters with ballot information. A mobile ballot box includes memory storage that is used to transport electronic ballot data to and from an election headquarters. The visual display on the LCD at the casting of each ballot is checked against electronic records of votes, as they are stored. The electronic ballot information includes a plurality of ballot styles that the controller selectively provides to the voting stations depending upon voter authorization corresponding to a particular style. The voting stations may be retrofitted with access units that facilitate voting by disabled or physically challenged persons. A complete audit trail is maintained of all operator interaction with the controller.

Precinct voting system

A compact disk identification system (50) utilizes a destructible adhesive sticker (20, 202, 204, 206) to identify the owner of a compact disk (40). The sticker includes a top layer (22) that is marked with printed indicia (26) providing ownership information. The top layer is backed by an adhesive face (34) covered with an adhesive providing an adhesive strength exceeding the tear strength of the top layer. The top layer is affixed to the compact disk using a base plate (52) and a pestle (54) having a central cylinder (62). A very close tolerance between the cylinder, the disk, the top layer, and the pestle provides a substantially perfect central alignment of the top layer on the disk. The stickers are also used in conjunction with a computer program (P300) providing data storage management function.

Adhesive sticker labeling system for use in identifying compact disks

The pulsed optical rotary encoder digitally samples the operation of the optical rotary encoder to obtain the same information that is obtained by the use of the continuously active light-emitting devices but in a much more energy-efficient manner. In particular, the light-emitting devices are pulsed into operation for a short duration and at a frequent rate. The signals produced by the light detectors associated with the light-emitting devices are sampled at a predetermined time after firing the light-emitting devices to obtain the data necessary to determine the rotation of the coding disk.
