An electrical motor has been developed having an epoxy, which encapsulates a stator winding to protect the stator winding from the humid and damp atmosphere associated with a cooling tower. The electrical motor includes a stator core, a stator winding configured about the stator core, and an epoxy encapsulating at least an end portion of the stator winding, the epoxy enabling the stator winding to be isolated from an atmosphere surrounding a fan within in a cooling tower operated by the electrical motor in which the stator core and the stator winding are positioned.

A system and method for automatically applying a de-jamming action in response to a jammed rotating member includes applying a pulsed torque in response to a detected jam, and additionally a reversal in the direction of rotation may be applied.

De-jamming device and method

A field-adjustable motor control system includes a motor, an inverter coupled to provide energization to the motor, a controller coupled to the inverter, and a field adjustment circuit that provides field adjustment signals to the controller. The controller provides signals to control the output of the inverter in response to received input control signals and field adjustment signals. The input control signals define the controller's operating state that corresponds to a desired system operating state. The field adjustment signals and input control signals define a desired output parameter of the inverter for an operating state. In certain embodiments, fail-safe circuitry is also provided that includes a relay receiving controller signals. The relay's input is coupled to a line power and to the inverter output. The relay's output is coupled to the motor. If the controller fails, the relay couples the line power to the motor.

An air conditioning (A/C) system includes a condenser and an electric motor that drives a fan to induce air flow through the condenser. The electric motor includes an internal stator assembly and an external rotor assembly rotatable about the internal stator assembly. A housing is attached to the external rotor assembly. A motor control system for use in heating, ventilation, and air conditioning applications includes a blower, a motor coupled to drive the blower, an inverter coupled to provide energization to the motor, and a controller coupled to the inverter. The controller provides signals to control the output of the inverter in response to received input control signals. Input control signals received by the controller can define first and second operating states. In response to the input control signals defining the first operating state, the controller controls the output of the inverter in accordance with a first volts vs. hertz relationship. In response to the input control signals defining the second operating state, the controller controls the output of the inverter in accordance with a second volts vs. hertz relationship, where the first volts vs. hertz relationship is different than the second volts vs. hertz relationship.

PSC motor system for use in HVAC applications

A method and device for driving a clothes washing machine motor at a predetermined speed is presented. The washing machine motor, which may be an AC induction motor, is powered by a DC to AC inverter that includes a DC bus. The DC bus current is measured and the inverter output frequency is adjusted in response to the DC bus current measurement. In exemplary embodiments, measuring the DC bus current includes measuring the voltage drop across a resistor coupled to the DC bus. The frequency adjustment may be calculated by multiplying the DC bus current by a compensation factor to calculate a frequency adjustment value. Alternatively, frequency adjustment values may be stored in a look-up table, and the measured DC bus current is used to index the look-up table.

Washing machine motor control device and method

Improved overflow protection for washing machines and other applications in which a liquid from a controllable valve fills a tub is achieved by a circuit in which a single pulse train generated cooperatively by a pressure sensor and a controller is monitored by a lockout timer. If an interruption in the train of pulses occurs that is longer than a predetermined time-out period indicating a failure of either the pressure sensor or the controller that would otherwise prevent the valve from shutting off the flow of liquid into the tub, the lockout timer will cause the valve to turn off. The controller is also able to override the lockout timer and cause a relay to shut off power to the controllable valve to force it off if the pressure sensor detects a continued rise in liquid level after the controller has signalled the controllable valve to shut off.

Overflow protection for a washing machine

A water valve assembly includes a valve body having defined therein (1) a first fluid inlet, (2) a temperature sensing port, (3) a fluid outlet, and (4) a fluid channel in fluid communication with the first fluid inlet, the temperature sensing port, and the fluid outlet. The assembly also includes a first water valve being in fluid communication with the first fluid inlet. The assembly also includes a sensing device having a temperature sensing surface being positioned in thermal communication with the temperature sensing port. In addition, the assembly further includes a pressure inlet member having a pressure channel defined therein. The sensing device further has a pressure sensing surface, and the pressure channel is positioned in fluid communication with the pressure sensing surface. A method of operating a water valve assembly is also disclosed.
