Isobutanol may be converted into predominantly Colefin oligomers under specified conditions. Such methods may comprise: contacting a feed comprising isobutanol with a zeolite solid acid catalyst having a MWW framework under conditions effective to convert the isobutanol into a product comprising Colefin oligomers, wherein n is an integer having a value of two or greater and about 80 wt. % or greater of the Colefin oligomers are larger than C.

Oligomerization of isobutanol in the presence of MWW zeolite solid acid catalysts

Systems and methods are provided for forming alkylate from a tertiary alcohol feed. Olefins for the alkylation reaction can be generated from a portion of the tertiary alcohol feed. The tertiary alcohol feed can be obtained, for example, by selective oxidation to convert a portion of an isoparaffin-containing feed into alcohol, such as conversion of isobutane to t-butyl alcohol. The alcohol can then be converted to an alkene, such as conversion of t-butyl alcohol to isobutene, in the alkylation reaction environment in the presence of a solid acid catalyst. The solid acid catalyst can then facilitate dimerization of the alkenes (e.g. isobutene) to form Colefins (e.g. isooctene). A catalyst having an MWW framework is an example of a suitable solid acid catalyst.

Production of iso-octene from tertiary alcohols

This invention relates to a method for making shaped bodies having a silica content of at least 85 wt %, to shaped bodies made by such method, to catalyst compositions comprising shaped bodies made by such methods and to catalytic conversion processes using catalyst compositions comprising shaped bodies made by such methods. The method of making the shaped bodies comprises the steps of a) forming shaped bodies from a mixture obtained from at least one amorphous silica powder, at least one silica sol having a pH below 7, and at least one polymeric organic extrusion aid, optionally supplemental liquid medium and optionally crystallites of a zeolite or zeolite-type material; b) drying the shaped bodies obtained in step a); and c) heating the shaped bodies to a temperature ranging from about 500&#xb0; C. to about 800&#xb0; C.
