A polyimide film substrate pre-heater assembly is provided for pre-heating substrates in an image producing machine and includes (a) plural rollers including a drive roller; (b) a substrate path defining and heating assembly for defining a portion of substrate path; and (c) a belt assembly including a polyimide film belt forming a loop. The loop forms a substrate transport nip against the substrate path defining and heating assembly. The polyimide film belt includes a polyimide film support layer, a puzzle cut seam having inter-fitting teeth and receptacle members, and a fluoroelastomeric overcoat layer for filling and strengthening the puzzle cut seam, thereby preventing the inter-fitting teeth and receptacle members thereof from popping up when the loop is driven over relatively small diameter rollers.

An imaging surface field reconditioning method and apparatus are provided for reconditioning, in the field, a marking material control pattern on an imaging surface of in an image producing machine. The imaging surface field reconditioning apparatus for practicing the method includes (a) an abrading device including an abrasive member having an abrasive surface; (b) a drive assembly for moving the imaging surface of the imaging member along a first plane; (b) a first moving device for moving the abrading surface of the abrading member into contact with the imaging surface for forming a surface reconditioning nip therewith; and (d) at least a second moving device for simultaneously moving the abrading surface along the first plane, and translating the abrading surface back and forth against said imaging surface along a second plane, for reconditioning the marking material control pattern on the imaging surface, thereby preventing marking material drawback during subsequent image formation, and thereby improving imaging quality.

Fabricating belts by forcing adhesive into a belt seam using centrifugal forces. A belt having ends that are fabricated to mate along a seam is inserted into a cylinder such that a seam is formed. An adhesive is then deposited along the seam and the cylinder is spun at a speed sufficient to force the adhesive into the seam. The adhesive is then cured so as to produce a seamed belt.
