An apparatus which controls lateral alignment of a belt arranged to move along a predetermined path. The belt is supported by a pivoted roller. A member having a pair of opposed, spaced flanges extending outwardly therefrom is mounted slidably on a shaft extending outwardly from one end of the roller. A spring, contacting the flanged member, resiliently urges one of the flanges into continuous engagement with one side of the belt. Movement of the belt from the predetermined path slides the flanged member so that one of the flanges frictionally rotates a disc interposed therebetween. Rotation of the disc tilts the roller restoring the belt to the predetermined path of movement.

Belt alignment system

An apparatus which maintains a moving belt in lateral alignment. The belt is supported so as to form an arcuate region therein. A guide engages the side edge of the belt in the arcuate region to prevent lateral movement thereof.

Edge guide for belt tracking

An apparatus which controls the lateral alignment of a belt arranged to move in a pre-determined path. A pivotably mounted belt support is frictionally driven to move in unison with the belt. Lateral movement of the belt applies a frictional force on the belt support. The frictional force tilts the belt support in a direction so as to restore the belt to the predetermined path of movement.

Belt tracking system

An apparatus in which the lateral movement of a belt arranged to move along a pre-determined path is controlled. The apparatus includes a belt sensor mounted translatably on a belt support. As the belt moves laterally, the sensor translates therewith causing the belt support to pivot so as to return the belt to the pre-determined path.

An apparatus and method of use in which a first photoconductive belt arranged to move about an endless operative path in an electrophotographic printing machine is replaced by a second photoconductive belt. The leading marginal region of the second photoconductive belt is secured to the first photoconductive belt. As the first photoconductive belt moves about the operative path, it positions the second photoconductive belt thereabout. After the second photoconductive belt is positioned about the operative path, the first photoconductive belt is removed therefrom and separated from the second photoconductive belt. The leading marginal region of the second photoconductive belt is then secured to the trailing marginal region thereof.

Replenishable photoconductive system

An apparatus in which an endless belt is supported for movement in a recirculating path. A pressurized fluid flows between a support post and the belt to reduce friction therebetween. The post is urged resiliently toward the belt to maintain the belt under substantially uniform tension.

Belt tensioning system

An apparatus in which a belt is supported for movement in a pre-determined path. The lateral movement of the belt relative to the pre-determined path is controlled. A pneumatic system provides pressurized fluid to at least partially support the belt and control the lateral movement thereof.

Pneumatic system for supporting and steering a belt

An apparatus in which the lateral alignment of a belt arranged to move in a pre-determined path is controlled. A support mounted resiliently constrains lateral movement of the belt causing the belt to apply a moment to a pivotably mounted steering post. As a result of this moment, the steering post pivots in a direction to restore the belt to the pre-determined path.

An apparatus in which a stripping member separates a sheet adhering to a moving member. The stripping member is translatable so as to maintain the spacing between the moving member and the surface of the stripping member opposed therefrom substantially constant.

Sheet stripping apparatus

An apparatus in which a sheet is separated from a moving member. The apparatus includes a pair of elastomeric diaphragms coupled to a stripping member. A detector senses the spacing between the moving member and the stripping element of the stripping member. The diaphragms, in response to the sensed spacing, pivot the stripping member so as to maintain the space between the moving member and stripping element substantially constant.

An imaging method is given whereby a latent electrostatographic image is developed by a developer containing liquid developer dispensing roll having excellent dimensional stability and resiliency having a thin, hard surface carrying the liquid developer on a resilient shell supported by a hard metal shaft.
