A method for slide shows. The method includes receiving one or more video content element and one or more image content element that are each associated with a respective audio track, where a first video content element includes a corresponding first audio track and a second video content element includes a corresponding second audio track that is disabled or non-existent, receiving input selecting a background audio track for the slide show, and automatically integrating the video content element, the image content element, and the background audio track together into the slide show, where the background audio track is played during playback of the slide show when the computing device detects that there is no audio signal generated by another audio track in the slide show.

Slideshows comprising various forms of media

An example method may retrieve a markup language document from an electronic storage device. The markup language document may define a component of an interactive media application and a plurality of resolution dependent parameter sets for the component. The method may continue and determine, using at least one processor, a current resolution of a display device of a playback device and select, using the at least one processor, a parameter set of the plurality of resolution dependent parameter sets for the component based on the current resolution and device. The method may also apply, using the at least one processor, the parameter set to the component; and present, using the at least one processor, the component as part of the interactive media application on the playback device.

Application Markup language

Methods and apparatus are provided providing users with the ability to create and produce multimedia devices. In one aspect of the present invention, users are provided with the capability to easily and seamlessly create slideshows using multiple forms of graphic elements instead of just still pictures. In another aspect of the present invention, users are provided with the capability to create and modify the DVD menu that is required for DVDs to function properly on conventional DVD players. In still another aspect of the present invention, users are provided with an intuitive graphic interface that simply and clearly explains the trade offs the user must make in deciding which mode to record the DVD.

A system in accordance with the present invention may include one or more processors, memory that receives instructions from the one or more processors according to a clock operating at a frequency, one or more programs stored in the memory, with instructions to: access media content; analyze the media content according to meta data, media characteristics, or other media-related data; and, create a media content object cluster according to the meta data, the media characteristics, or the other media-related data.

Effects application based on object clustering

In order to display a set of media items in a visually pleasing manner, the relationship between the set of media items and a plurality of predefined media arrangements may be determined. A score corresponding to the set of media items may be compared to a score corresponding to each of the predefined media arrangements. The media item score and the media arrangement scores may be based on properties of the media items and properties of the media arrangements, respectively. The media arrangement that is most closely related to the set of media items may be identified based on the score comparison and the media items may be displayed in the identified media arrangement.

Semi-automatic organic layout for media streams

A set of media items may be matched with a media arrangement that displays the media items in the set in a group of frames. The media arrangement may extend across an area larger than a viewable area of a display device. In order to determine the media items that appear within a viewable area, a list of media items may be divided into two portions, one on either side of a middle item in the list. If any part of a frame with which the middle item is associated is within an extended spatial area that extends beyond the viewable area, the middle item may be eliminated from the list, when no part of the frame with which the middle item is associated is within the extended area. The process may be repeated until it is determined that a part of a frame with which the middle item is associated is within the extended area.

Viewable frame identification

Methods and systems are presented for automatically generating a slide associated with a slideshow. In one aspect, a method includes selecting an image for inclusion in a slideshow, where the image has associated facial detection information. A face location is determined in the selected image based on the facial detection information and the selected image is cropped based on the determined face location to generate a cropped image depicting the included face. The cropped image is inserted into a slide associated with the slideshow. Further, an animation having a defined animation path can be associated with the slide. Also, the face location can be identified as a position in the animation path and the slide can be animated based on the associated animation.

Generating slideshows using facial detection information

A system in accordance with the present invention may include one or more processors, memory that receives instructions from the one or more processors according to a clock operating at a frequency, one or more programs stored in the memory, with instructions to: define a layer, wherein the layer comprises one or more effects; associate media content with the layer; aggregate the layer with one or more other layers; and, assemble the aggregated layers.

Framework for slideshow object

A computer-implemented method and system are provided for profiling or analyzing audio data based on an audio parameter. The audio data is divided into audio data into segments. Each segment is characterized by the audio parameter in a defined range. Effects are selected according to the segments meeting criteria for the audio parameter of the effects. A media presentation is authored or generated using the selected effects.

Multimedia display based on audio and visual complexity

A system in accordance with the present invention may include one or more processors, memory that receives instructions from the one or more processors according to a clock operating at a frequency, one or more programs stored in the memory, with instructions to: access media content, wherein the media content is associated with meta data, media characteristics, or other media-related data; couple certain of the media content to a style; and, organize the coupled certain of the media content according to the style and the meta data, media characteristics, or other media-related data.

Some embodiments of the invention provide a computerized method for creating and editing a multimedia item. The method provides a menu theme for a multimedia item. The menu theme includes a display section for displaying a multimedia item, an adjustable text section for displaying several selectable text options, and a special effect built into the menu theme for applying to the multimedia item. The method presents the multimedia item on display after applying the special effect to the multimedia item.

Method and apparatus for creating multimedia presentations

A menu theme is created using a menu theme description file that contains a general description of each object (such as a drop zone area, selectable menu buttons, menu title, theme background, etc.) contained in the menu theme. In addition, the menu theme description file contains a path to one or more patch files for each object in the menu theme, the patch file being used to render the object. The patch file contains a description of an arrangement of modules including a list of the modules and relationships between them. In some embodiments, a patch file is created using a composer application that displays a graphical representation of the patch file and translates the graphical representation to a textual representation.
