A gearbox assembly for a twin-screw extruder comprises a speed change gearbox for adjusting a screw shaft speed of two screw shafts of the twin-screw extruder, a distribution gearbox allowing the screw shafts to be coupled thereto, and a speed reduction gearbox. The speed change gearbox and the speed reduction gearbox are configured such as to be separable from each other, wherein the speed change gearbox is arranged at a driving end while the speed reduction gearbox couples the speed change gearbox to the distribution gearbox. Due to the fact that the speed change gearbox is configured as an individual gearbox unit arranged at the driving end, an adjustment of the screw shaft speed is easily possible by replacing the speed change gearbox. As a result, a high flexibility and productivity are obtained in the operation of the twin-screw extruder.

A screw machine, in particular an extruder, has a housing which has a supply opening at a supply end. At least one bore with a longitudinal axis is provided, in which a screw shaft is rotatably arranged. The drive takes place by means of a drive motor using a gear, the output shaft of which has a rotary drive connection to the screw shaft. Provided between the housing and the gear is a slide connection, which allows a displacement of the housing relative to the gear in the direction of the longitudinal axis.

A worm shaft coupling for connecting a driven shaft of a transmission mechanism and a coaxially arranged worm shaft of an extruder has a coupling sleeve which connects two coupling pegs in a torque-proof manner and is, in turn axially secured using threaded sleeves. The internal thread of the threaded sleeve facing the worm shaft of the extruder and the associated external thread of the coupling sleeve have recesses allowing the threaded sleeve and the coupling sleeve to be connected in the manner of a bayonet fixing.

A material processing plant consists of a first screw-type machine and a second screw-type machine: The screw-type machines are connected to each other by means of a pipe elbow. An elongation compensation device is disposed between the first screw-type machine and the pipe elbow. An expansion compensation device for thermal expansion of the second screw-type machine is disposed inside the last column of the first screw-type machine which is arranged upstream of the pipe elbow.
