A feed station feeds a flow of items along a transport path, in which a path, a path point Wis orthogonal to the position of a first transport roller, a path point Wis orthogonal to the position of a sensor, and a path point Wis orthogonal to a second transport roller. A distance between Wand Wis smaller than the minimum length of the flat items and is greater than or equal to a distance between Wand a path end point Wend. A distance between Wend and an intake point W-Wend of the subsequent goods processing apparatus is much smaller than the W-Wend distance. A transport velocity distance between the separated flat items at the start of the transport path is controlled to a minimum distance and is always the same size when the items leave the feed station.

A measuring arrangement and measurement method determine the play of a cartridge pivot unit of an inkjet printing system that has at least one stop for the cartridge pivot unit. The cartridge pivot unit is driven by a first motor via a gear train and is equipped with a first movement sensor to establish a movement of the cartridge pivot unit upon leaving the stop. The cartridge pivot unit moves only when the play of the gear train is overcome. The stop for the cartridge pivot unit is formed by a mobile cleaning and sealing station. A counter is provided to count pulses, the count being representative of the play of the gear train of the cartridge pivot unit counting begins with leaving the mobile stop and continues until the movement of the cartridge pivot unit upon leaving the stop again ensues in conformity with the actuation by the first motor.

The control program includes a postage module that contains postage data and commands for designing a postage user interface to be displayed at a display. A postage meter machine has a digital printer device with a guide plate and a transport mechanism for print media controlled by a control unit that generates print control signals for a printhead in order to print the print medium surface with a corresponding print format while the print medium is being transported past the printhead. A print sensor is arranged in the guide plate before a recess for the printhead. A preparation sensor is arranged in the guide plate at a predetermined distance upstream, preceding the print sensor. The control unit includes a microprocessor to which an encoder for determining the belt travel path of the conveyor belt and the aforementioned sensors are connected. The microprocessor, together with a memory, forms a belt counter that is updated on the basis of the signals supplied by the encoder. The microprocessor is programmed to identify a letter jam, a valid letter format or an error on the basis of preparation sensor and print sensor interrogations and a determination of the belt travel path, and to exactly undertake the print control in a path-controlled manner.
