A method for assigning identifiers of wheel electronics to the positions of the wheels on the vehicle is disclosed. The wheel electronics send their individual identifier with information relating to the rotational direction of the wheel and to the occurrence of an impact on the wheel to a receiver. An evaluation unit: collects the identifiers and rotational direction information and the driving speed, and on this basis, differentiates between identifiers of wheel electronics on the left and right vehicle side; differentiates impacts reported from wheel electronics on the left vehicle side, from impacts reported from wheel electronics on the right vehicle side; measures the time between impact signals reported from wheel electronics on the left or on the right vehicle side; multiplies the measured time by the driving speed measuring during this time; and checks whether the length formed by the multiplication coincides with an axle distance.

Method for assigning identifiers of wheel electronics of a tire pressure monitoring system of a vehicle to the positions of the wheels on the vehicle

A tire module for attachment to an inside of a pneumatic tire for vehicles includes a device for measuring and/or monitoring the air pressure in the tire. A transmitter for transmitting radio signals, which contains information regarding the air pressure in the tire, includes a mechanical-electrical transducer having a flexible piezo-electrical element, which converts alternating changes in shape of the piezo-electric element caused by the rolling tire into electric energy and includes a storage unit for the electric energy, which is connected to the transducer. The transducer may contain a circular, disc-like, piezo-electric element, which in the following is described as piezo disc and on which an electrical voltage generated through the piezo effect is tapped off on contact points which are located on opposite sides of the piezo disc.

A device for measuring the tire pressure in a wheel of a vehicle provided with a pneumatic tire is accommodated in a shell-shaped housing which is arranged at the valve base of a tire valve. Provision is made that there is only a single location on the housing by which the housing can rest on the rim well of a rim of the wheel.

A tire pressure monitoring device is equipped for attaching to a wheel of a vehicle provided with pneumatic tires. The device measures the tire air pressure present in the pneumatic tire or a change of the tire pressure. An electrical circuit controls the tire pressure monitoring device. A memory stores a program for the electrical circuit. A first transmitter operates in a first frequency range for transmitting data out of the tire pressure monitoring device to a first receiver located outside the tire pressure monitoring device. In the memory initially a basic version of the program is stored, out of which multiple different versions of the program for multiple vehicle types can be developed. Subsequently, a fitting full version for a selected vehicle type is created in that program parameters intended for the selected vehicle type are subsequently stored in the memory of the tire pressure monitoring device.

Allocates identifiers of units of a tire pressure monitoring system to the positions of ABS-sensors which are each assigned to the wheels of the vehicle. The identifiers are contained in signals that are emitted by the units. The invention describes a method for allocating identifiers of wheel electronics of a tire pressure monitoring system to positions of wheels of a vehicle, the simultaneously occurring rotation speeds of the wheels, normalized on a consistently chosen rolling radius of the wheels differ during cornering because of the different positions of the wheels on the vehicle, so that the positions of the wheels can be sorted according to increasing speed of the wheels during cornering, the wheel electronics of each wheel comprising a pressure sensor, a motion sensor, a memory and a transmitter, which transmits signals to a receiver being connected to an evaluation device, which receives the transmitted identifiers and compares the distances which the corresponding wheels have traveled in a defined time span, sorts the identifiers according to the length of the distance traveled in the defined time span and allocates the identifiers to the wheel positions.

A tire module, for installation on an inner side of a pneumatic tire for vehicles, including a device for measuring and/or monitoring of the air pressure in the tire, a transmitter for transmitting radio signals, which contain information about the air pressure in the tire, a mechanical-electrical converter having a bendable piezoelectric element, which converts into electric energy alternating deformations of the piezoelectric element caused by the rolling tire, and a storage device for the electric energy, which is connected to the converter. A method for operating a device for monitoring and indicating a pressure change in vehicle tires by wire, being preferably arranged in the tire as one module together with the tire valve, and comprising a current source, a pressure sensor arranged for measuring the tire pressure at first time intervals, an analog/digital converter for digitizing a pressure signal obtained from the pressure sensor, a memory for storing the pressure signal, a transmitter for transmitting the measured tire pressure information to a receiving unit located in the vehicle, a comparator, especially one realized in one module with a microprocessor, which compares the pressure signal with a previously stored comparison pressure signal and controls the transmitter in such a way that the transmitter will transmit signals at second time intervals greater than the first time intervals, so long as the decrease of the pressure signal, relative to the comparison pressure signal (drift), does not exceed a threshold value, but will transmit signals at third time intervals smaller than the second time intervals when and so long as the drift exceeds the pressure threshold value; to this end the second time intervals are varied in response to one or more physical conditions that are measured in the tire and that vary in driving operation.

A vehicle tire pressure monitoring system includes a pressure sensor, a transmitter, and a transmitting antenna at each of N wheels of the vehicle, and at least one receiving antenna attached to the vehicle, respectively allocated to each transmitting, antenna. A tire pressure monitoring device includes a pressure measurement sensor provided on each of the wheels to be monitored, a transmitter arranged near each pressure measurement sensor for sending signals representative of the pressure determined by the pressure measurement sensor, respective antennas for receiving the signals, the antennas being arranged on the vehicle chassis near the respective wheel. Each antenna is formed by making use of a separate electric line belonging to another monitoring system that is associated to the same wheel or is formed by making use of a sensor belonging to another monitoring system associated to the same wheels. Alternatively an electric line that leads to another consumer which is associated to the respective wheel, like a lamp, is used as an antenna.
