A heading machine includes first and second rotating cutting heads each having an axis of rotation extending substantially in a longitudinal direction of the machine, a first cutting roller having an axis of rotation extending substantially horizontal and transverse to the longitudinal direction of the machine, and a further cutting device supported on the cutting frame and arranged to cut off the cusps of unmined material left on side wall. The machine further includes a side stabilizer, and can cut a rectangular profile without leaving cusps left on the side wall.

A modular rotary claw drill bit having a head is mountable at a body, the head mounting a plurality of front and gauge cutting picks. A cutting tip of each front pick is located at a different radial position at the head to optimise the flushing of cut material and to minimise pick wear during use.

A driving or mining machine includes a pivotable cantilever arm that is hinged so as to be pivotable in the height direction to a pivoting mechanism capable of being pivoted about a substantially vertical axis and on its free end carries rotationally mounted excavation tools, in particular cutter heads. The anchor boring and setting device is arranged substantially in the longitudinal center of the frame above the platform and pivotally mounted on a rollover whose pivot axis crosses the vertical axis of the pivoting mechanism. The pivot angle of the anchor boring and setting device is larger than 180&deg; and extends to below the horizontal plane containing the pivot axis of the rollover.
