A rack for a steering gear of a motor vehicle may include a toothed portion having a toothing, and a shaft portion. Separate segments comprising at least one in each case bar-shaped toothed segment and one shaft segment are provided, are aligned on a common longitudinal axis, and are connected to one another at a joint. The method may involve providing a raw material piece having a piece length that is a multiple of a segment length, thermally continuously hardening the raw material piece across a multiple of a segment length to produce a hardened semi-finished segment product, cutting to length a hardened segment from the hardened semi-finished segment product, providing a further segment, and joining the hardened segment to a further segment.

Toothed rack and method for producing a toothed rack for a steering gear of a motor vehicle

A rack for a steering gear includes a toothed portion with a toothing extending along a longitudinal axis, and a generally cylinder-segment-shaped back opposite the toothing and having a back radius. A method for producing such a rack includes forming a cylindrical blank with an unmachined radius between a toothed die part having a toothed mold clearance and a back die part having a back mold clearance in a die cavity. The die may have a generally cylinder-segment-shape. In an open position of the die, the blank may be inserted between the toothed mold clearance and the back mold clearance. The toothed die part and the back die part in a forging stroke for closing the cavity may then be moved in a closing direction to a closed position. The back radius of the back mold clearance may be larger than the unmachined radius of the blank.

A method can be employed to produce a rack for a steering gear. The rack may include a toothed portion with a toothing, and a shaft portion with a functional portion. A rack may include a toothed portion having a toothing, and a shaft portion having a threaded portion with a coaxial thread that has a thread length in an axial direction of a longitudinal axis. Separate segments comprising at least one in each case bar-shaped toothed segment and one shaft segment are provided, are aligned on the longitudinal axis, and are connected to one another at a joint. A method for producing the rack may involve providing a shaft raw material piece having a piece length that is a multiple of a shaft segment length, generating a thread that is continuous in a longitudinal direction on the shaft raw material piece across a multiple of the thread length to produce a threaded semi-finished product, cutting to length a threaded segment from the threaded semi-finished product, providing a toothed segment, and joining the threaded segment to the toothed segment.

Method for producing a toothed rack for a motor vehicle

A method for producing a rack for a steering gear may involve providing a toothed segment and a shaft segment aligned on a longitudinal axis and connecting the segments by axial joining faces by friction welding at a welding joint. For friction welding, the joining faces may be brought into frictional contact by an initial friction force, the segments may be rotated relative to one another, the joining faces may be mutually compressed by way of a contact pressure force until a predefined joining path has been reached by way of a welding force 10 to 20 times the initial friction force, thermal input friction may be performed by an input force 5 to 12 times the initial friction force, and the segments may be moved toward one another in an axial direction by the predefined joining path. The segments may be held in position without friction.

Rack and method for producing a rack for a steering gear of a motor vehicle

The invention relates to a motor vehicle steering system, comprising a steering housing () in which a steering rack () is mounted in a longitudinally displaceable manner and is connected to tie rods () to swivel steerable wheels (), the steering rack () being provided with a first toothed segment () which meshes with a first steering pinion () and the steering pinion () being connected to a steering wheel () for conjoint rotation by a steering shaft (), the steering rack () having a second toothed segment () which is opposite the first toothed segment () relative to the longitudinal axis of the steering rack (), and that a second steering pinion () is provided which meshes with the second toothed segment ().

Double pinion steering gear

A toothed rack has hollow sections and a longitudinal axis that extends parallel to a longitudinal direction and which in the hollow region includes a wall encompassing the longitudinal axis of the toothed rack in a circumferential direction and in at least a subregion comprises a toothing. In the circumferential direction spaced apart from the toothing, at least one local attenuation and/or holding edge is developed in the wall, which, with respect to the longitudinal direction of the toothed rack, extends at least over a portion of the length of the toothing next to the attenuation.

Steering rack

A toothed rack or threaded rod, in particular for a steering mechanism for a motor vehicle, includes a first rod-shaped part which, as a function element of the toothed rack or threaded rod, includes at least one element for the conversion of a rotational movement into a translational movement, in particular a toothing and/or a threading for the engagement of a threaded nut or of a threaded drive, and a second rod-shaped part which is connected with the first rod-shaped part. The connection of the first with the second rod-shaped part takes place via a separate connection part which includes first and second connection pins, of which the first connection pin is held by press fit in the hollow volume opening out at the connection end of the first rod-shaped part and the second connection pin is held by press fit in the hollow volume opening out at the connection end of the second rod-shaped part. A section of the connection part located between the first and the second connection pin has at least over a region of its circumference a greater radial dimension than the first and the second rod-shaped part in the corresponding circumferential region.
