A thread structure in accordance to one or more embodiments includes a thread extending helically along a portion of a bit body in spaced thread turns, the thread having a crest extending between a first flank and a second flank and a root extending between the thread turns, the root having a curvature defined by a portion of an ellipse tangentially adjoining the first and second flank at respective flank transition points, the ellipse having a major axis extending parallel to the axis and a minor axis extending perpendicular to the major axis and through a root bottom.

Aspects of the disclosure can relate to a system for tracking fatigue damage experienced by a tool in real-time. The system can include a processor operably coupled to a memory and operable to execute one or more modules to generate master curve fitting coefficients for a connection type associated with a tool component (e.g., a component of a bottom hole assembly). The master curve fitting coefficients can be for a threaded connection master curve, a port hole master curve, and so forth. The processor can also be operable to execute the one or more modules to generate a fatigue calculator for the tool component. The system may receive a real-time trajectory for the tool, determine a curvature from the trajectory of the tool, determine a bending moment based upon the curvature, and determine fatigue damage for the tool component based upon the bending moment using the fatigue calculator.

Fatigue calculator generation system

A multiply accumulate unit ('MAC') that performs operations on packed integer data. In one embodiment, the MAC receives 2 32-bit data words which, depending on the specified mode of operation, each contain either four 8-bit operands, two 16-bit operands, or one 32-bit operand. Depending on the mode of operation, the MAC performs either sixteen 8&#xd7;8 operations, four 16&#xd7;16 operations, or one 32&#xd7;32 operation. Results may be individually retrieved from registers and the corresponding accumulator cleared after the read cycle. In addition, the accumulators may be globally initialized. Two results from the 8&#xd7;8 operations may be packed into a single 32-bit register. The MAC may also shift and saturate the products as required.
