A method to visualize and correct alignment errors between paired 2D and 3D data sets is described. In a representative embodiment, a display interface used for dental implant planning includes one or more display areas that enable the operator to visualize alignment errors between the paired 2D and 3D data sets. A first display area renders 3D cone beam data. A second display area renders one or more (and preferably three (3) mutually orthogonal views) slices of the cone beam data. A third display area displays a view of a 2D scanned surface map (obtained from an intra-oral scan, or the scan of a model). According to a first aspect, the view of the 2D scanned surface map in the third display area is 'textured' by coloring the 2D surface model based on the intensity of each 3D pixel (or 'voxel') that it intersects.

Systems, methods and apparatus for tracking changes in an ocular scene

Systems, methods and apparatus are provided through which in some aspects a custom orthopedic implant is designed, fabricated and sterilized for immediate surgical use to treat a patient's injury. In some aspects, the orthopedic implant is designed using patient and injury specific scan data, fabricated using a five axis milling machine, and sterilized with a sterilization system. In other aspects, the fabricated orthopedic implant is transferred into the sterilization system with a transport system. The disclosed method may also include automatically determining a desired compression level at which to send data to the client based at least in part on the client resource parameter, the server resource parameter, and the network operating parameter. A method and computer program product for processing a digital image is disclosed. A foreground region relating to an imaged object is estimated, a background region relating to other than the imaged object is estimated, and by using the image, the estimated foreground region and the estimated background region, a transition region disposed between the foreground region and the background region is calculated. The estimated foreground region, the estimated background region, and the calculated transition region, each include a separate set of pixels that may each be processed separately for suppressing pixel intensities in the estimated background region and improving image quality.

Method and product for processing digital images

A technique is provided for improving digital images by analysis of the sampling rate of the image data. The optimal sampling rate is determined, such as based on the point-spread function of the imaging system, and is compared to the actual pixel sampling rate. Based upon the comparison, the image may be shrunk or sub-sampled to provide the optimal sampling rate that allows for optimal image filtering while accounting for inherent variations in spatial resolution of the images.

In addition to SNR, a filter parameter may be determined using user preferences. The system includes a signal-to-noise ratio processor for determining a signal-to-noise ratio for an image. The system also includes a parameter selection unit for selecting at least one filter parameter based on the signal-to-noise ratio. The system further includes an image filter for filtering the image based on the filter parameter(s). In an embodiment, the SNR processor determines signal-to-noise ratio(s) for region(s) in the image.
