The present disclosure provides soft block copolymer segments of Formula 1 for thermoplastic polyurethane or polyurethaneurea elastomer materials and their reaction products with divalent compounds, such as diisocyanates, chain extenders and optional additional polyols or polyamines. Also disclosed herein are methods for the production of the soft block copolymer segments, and possible applications of these materials in the formation of biomaterials for articles including medical devices such as implants, heart valves and drug delivery devices.

Chain extenders

A valve in the form of a medical device, article, or implant that is composed wholly or partly of a biomaterial, the biomaterial comprising a polyurethane or polyurethane urea elastomeric composition having a plurality of soft segments and hard segments, such that the plurality of soft segments are each derived from at least one block copolymer segment of Formula 1 and optionally an additional polyol or polyamine. The valve may include a plurality of valve leaflets and a support structure with one or more of the valve leaflets being composed wholly or partly of the biomaterial.

Polymer-based organic electroluminescent device

The present invention relates to biocompatible, biodegradable polyurethane/urea polymeric compositions that are capable of in-vivo curing with low heat generation to form materials suitable for use in scaffolds in tissue engineering applications such as bone and cartilage repair. The polymers are desirably flowable and injectable and can support living biological components to aid in the healing process. They may be cured ex-vivo for invasive surgical repair methods, or alternatively utilized for relatively non-invasive surgical repair methods such as by arthroscope.
