Certain embodiments described herein are directed to methods and systems for adding one or more nodes to a first cluster including a first node in a computer system. A method performed by the first node comprises receiving a first request from a second node to join the first cluster. The method also comprises retrieving a first cluster configuration associated with the first cluster from a distributed database through a first database server (DBS) and creating a second cluster configuration using the first cluster configuration and information received from the second node as part of the request. The method further comprises populating a first one or more local trust stores of a first one or more processes executing on the first node with a second one or more security certificates of a second one or more processes executing on the second node. The method further comprises writing the second cluster configuration to the distributed database and returning the second cluster configuration to the second node.

Methods and systems for securely and efficiently clustering distributed processes using a consistent database

Various aspects are disclosed for distributed application management using an embedded persistent queue framework. In some aspects, task execution data is monitored from a plurality of task execution engines. A task request is identified. The task request can include a task and a Boolean predicate for task assignment. The task is assigned to a task execution engine embedded in a distributed application process if the Boolean predicate is true, and a capacity of the task execution engine is sufficient to execute the task. The task is enqueued in a persistent queue. The task is retrieved from the persistent queue and executed.

Certain aspects described herein are directed to methods and systems for updating a status of a first process. In certain aspects, a method includes periodically examining a first table stored in a consistent and distributed database, wherein the table includes a first indication of a status of the first process and a second indication of a status of a second process and the first process and the second process are clustered for implementing functions of a distributed application in a distributed manner. The method further includes determining that the first indication has not changed during a first time period and changing the status of the first process in a second table to reflect that the first process is non-operational, wherein a different share of workload associated with the distributed application is performed by the second process as compared to when the first process was operational.

Group membership and leader election coordination for distributed applications using a consistent database

In various example embodiments, a system, a method, and a machine readable medium to manage multicast traffic are disclosed. The system includes a controller server for receiving first multicast group member information and for providing centralized control of a network. The first multicast group member information is received from a first end-host computer and received at the controller server responsive to a first packet forwarding system identifying the first end-host computer is joining a first multicast group on a first virtual network. The controller server generates a first multicast tree and communicates a first network configuration message to at least one packet forwarding system of the first plurality of packet forwarding systems. The first network configuration message includes a packet flow table entry enabling configuration of a flow table to enable communication of multicast traffic for the first multicast group over a portion of the first multicast tree.

Systems and methods to manage multicast traffic

In various example embodiments, a system and method for optimizing management of a multicast tree are disclosed. The system receives first multicast group member information, from over a network and via a first packet forwarding system, at a controller server that provides for control of a network comprised of a first virtual local area network including a first packet forwarding system, the first multicast group member information being received by the first packet forwarding system and describing a first end-host computer as joining a first multicast group on the first virtual local area network. The system generates a multicast tree, at the controller server, and communicates a network configuration message to at least one packet forwarding system of a first plurality of packet forwarding systems to enable communication of the multicast traffic for the first multicast group over a portion of the multicast tree.

A packet forwarding network may include switches that forward network traffic between end hosts that are coupled to the forwarding network. An analysis network may be connected to the forwarding network. A controller may control the switches in the forwarding network to implement desired forwarding paths. The controller may configure the switches to form switch port groups. The controller may identify a port group that is connected to the analysis network. The controller may select a subset of the forwarded packets and may control selected switches to copy the subset to the identified port group. The controller may establish network tunnels between the switches and the port group. In this way, the controller may control the switches to perform efficient traffic monitoring regardless of the location on the forwarding network at which the traffic monitoring network is connected and without interfering with normal packet forwarding operations through the forwarding network.

Systems and methods for controlling switches to capture and monitor network traffic

A controller implemented on computing equipment may control switches in a network. The controller may provide flow tables that implement network policies to the switches to control packet forwarding through the network. The controller may provide debug table entries to the switches for use in a debug table that is separate from the flow table. The debug table entries may match incoming network packets and increment corresponding counters on the switches. The controller may retrieve count information from the counters for performing debugging operations on the network. For example, the controller may identify conflicts between fields of a selected flow table entry, determine whether elephant packet flows are present between switches, determine whether desired load balancing is being performed, determine whether a network path has changed, determine whether packet loss has occurred, and/or determine whether network packets are taking undesired paths based on the retrieved count information.

Systems and methods for performing debugging operations on networks using a controller

First and second controllers implemented on computing equipment may be used to control switches in a network. The switches may forward network packets between end hosts. The second controller may identify first and second redundant partitions of switches in the network that are each coupled to all of the end hosts. The first controller may instruct the first partition to install software while the second partition forwards network traffic and may instruct the second partition to install software while the first partition forwards network traffic. The first controller may install the software while the second controller is active and the second controller may install the software while the first controller is active. In this way, the switches and controllers may be provided with an uninterrupted software upgrade and packets may be forwarded between end hosts during the software upgrade without introducing packet loss or other noticeable reductions in network performance.

Systems and methods for performing uninterrupted network upgrades with controllers

According to one embodiment, a network device is configured to measure a quality of service associated with a real-time streaming packet received at a first transmission rate. The network device gathers metrics to a call quality based on the quality of service, wherein the metrics are specific to a wireless call quality, and adjusts the first transmission rate to a second transmission rate based on the metrics. Herein, the second transmission rate replaces the first transmission rate to balance between a transmission delay and reliability of the real-time streaming packet.

System and method for dynamic rate adaptation based on real-time call quality metrics

Handover of a call to a dual-mode phone from cellular to Wi-Fi. When handing over a call mediated by a mobility controller to a dual-mode phone and switching the call from a cellular to a Wi-Fi call, the mobility controller initiates a Wi-Fi connection to the dual mode phone. When the Wi-Fi connection is established, and with the cellular connection through the mobility controller still in place, the mobility controller starts a timer with a predetermined value and the dual-mode phone initiates release of the cellular connection. When the timer expires, the mobility controller switches the call from the cellular connection to the Wi-Fi connection.

Functionality is added to a dual-mode phone such that the dual-mode phone when operating in cellular mode sends a predetermined signal when it answers an incoming call. An enterprise mobility controller, on forwarding a call to the cellular side of a dual-mode phone after failing to complete a Wi-Fi connection, starts a timer. If the mobility controller does not receive the predetermined signal before the timer expires, it assumes that the cellular call has been handed off to the cellular voicemail system, terminates the cellular call, and sends the call to the enterprise voicemail system.

Providing a single number presentation to the party called by a dual-mode phone. The operation of the cellular side of a dual-mode phone is altered such that when the user attempts to place an outgoing call using the cellular phone, the call is redirected to a preprogrammed incoming phone number associated with the enterprise. When the enterprise PBX answers this call, the dual-mode phone transmits the desired number to the enterprise PBX. The enterprise PBX then places the call to the desired number, and in the process transmits the caller-id information assigned to the dual-mode phone.
