A scanner of an optical detection system includes a housing, an optical surface coupled to the housing, and an actuator coupled to the optical surface. The optical surface is movable to direct light into an area being scanned and to receive a reflected light pulse from the area being scanned. The actuator is operable to agitate the optical surface to remove debris from the optical surface.

A refrigeration system includes a vapor compression loop and a purge system in communication with the vapor compression loop. A method of purging contaminants from a refrigerant of a heat pump via a purge system includes generating a driving force across a separator, providing refrigerant including contaminants to the separator, separating the contaminants from the refrigerant within the separator, monitoring one or more parameters of the purge system and the heat pump, and actively controlling an operational parameter of the purge system in response to monitoring one or more parameters of the purge system and the heat pump.

Membrane purge system

A method of fabricating a glass matrix composite includes providing a fiber preform in a cavity of a die tooling, the fiber preform circumscribing an interior region; providing a parison of glass matrix material in the interior region, the glass matrix material having a first viscosity; introducing pressurized inert gas into the parison to outwardly inflate the parison against the fiber preform; and while under pressure from the pressurized inert gas, decreasing the first viscosity of the glass matrix material to a second viscosity. The pressure and the second viscosity cause the glass matrix material to flow and infiltrate into the fiber preform to thereby form a consolidated workpiece. The consolidated workpiece is then cooled to form a glass matrix composite.

Method of fabricating a glass-ceramic matrix composite

A separator for removing contamination from a fluid of a heat pump includes a housing having a hollow interior, a header plate arranged within the hollow interior and having at least one mounting hole, and a separation module mounted within the hollow interior. The separation module includes a connector for forming an interface with the at least one mounting hole. A sealant is located at the interface between the connector and the mounting hole.

Method for fabricating ceramic matrix composite components

A nitrogen generation system includes a heat exchanger for receiving supply air and cooling air and providing temperature conditioned supply air, a flow control valve for controlling a flow of the cooling air through the heat exchanger, and an air separation module for receiving the temperature conditioned supply air and generating nitrogen-enriched air. The nitrogen generation system also includes a sensor for measuring a parameter of the nitrogen-enriched air selected from the group consisting of a temperature, a flow rate, an oxygen concentration, and combinations thereof, and a controller connected to the sensor and the flow control valve for controlling the flow of the cooling air through the heat exchanger based on the parameter of the nitrogen-enriched air measured by the sensor.

Temperature controlled nitrogen generation system

Disclosed is a refrigeration system including a heat transfer fluid circulation loop configured to allow a refrigerant to circulate therethrough. A purge gas outlet is in operable communication with the heat transfer fluid circulation loop. The system also includes at least one gas permeable membrane having a first side in operable communication with the purge gas outlet and a second side. The membrane includes a porous inorganic material with pores of a size to allow passage of contaminants through the membrane and restrict passage of the refrigerant through the membrane. The system also includes a permeate outlet in operable communication with a second side of the membrane.
