Methods and systems for revoking electronic messages. One method includes storing, for each of a plurality of forwarded messages, a record in a data store, each record including a link to an original message for the forwarded message, and receiving a request to revoke a forwarded message. In response to receiving the request, the method includes identifying an original message the forwarded message via a record stored in the data store and notifying, with an electronic processor, a user associated with the original message of the request to revoke the forwarded message. In response to receiving an instruction revoking the original source message from the user, the method includes identifying each forward of the original message via records stored in the data store and revoking the original message and each message associated with each record stored in the data store including a link to the original message.

Methods and systems for tracing forwards of an electronic message. One method includes storing, for each of a plurality of forwarded messages sent via an electronic messaging application, a record in a data store, each record including a link to an original message for the forwarded message and calculating, with an electronic processor, a statistic for an electronic message based on records stored in the data store, wherein the statistic includes at least one selected from a group consisting of a number of forwards of the electronic message, a number of recipients of the electronic message including all forwards of the electronic message, and a number of requests to revoke the electronic message. The statistic is then output for display to a user via at least one user interface.

Tracing messages within a message chain

Insertion of an executable command or instructions in the form of an annotation to electronic content, such that the receiver can benefit from a more precise and detailed context as they interpret and/or act on the sender's request. The system can, upon detecting an appropriate trigger, be configured to 'translate' or convert the annotation across multiple applications and platforms and perform one or more tasks that facilitate the receiver's access to and interaction with the item. The sender enjoys a much finer control over the manner, presentation, and overall context of the electronic content item as it is shared, and becomes able to offer the receiver a more precise understanding of their own intentions in sharing this item. Similarly, a receiver can be guided toward actions or responses that are expected or desired by the receipt of the electronic content item.

An image captured by a camera can be processed by a scanning application to identify one or more regions within the image that are suitable for scanning. One or more of these regions can be selected for scanning automatically based on user-input such as a fingertip touch to a particular portion of the display screen. Users may also select multiple regions and submit multiple quadrangular regions for scanning to PDF from a single image.

A messaging system comprising: computer storage holding messaging accounts for users of the messaging system, each comprising a user identifier of a first type; an account manager for managing the messaging accounts; a group manager configured to grant participant users access to messaging groups by creating, in the computer storage, associations between the messaging groups and the messaging accounts of the participant users; a group messaging service configured for use in transmitting and receiving messages, in each of the plurality of messaging groups, between the participant users granted access to that messaging group, using the user identifiers of the first type in their messaging accounts.

The present system for application independent programming of controls functions to provide a common set of controls across a plurality of application programs, such as those typically included in an office suite installed on a processor, while also enabling users to customize these controls for each application program. This is accomplished by producing an interface in the underlying common programming model which enables the user to access a set of controls, with their standard properties, methods and events, in a consistent manner. The user can then create a user defined control in a particular application program without having to replicate the underlying common programming model on which the customization is based. The user creates an extender file to add to and/or modify the standard properties, methods and events of a control to thereby produce an extended control for use in the selected application program. The system for application independent programming of controls merges, at run time, the standard control and the extender file to create the customized control. This enables users to create customized controls without having to replicate the common programming model and also enables consistency of control implementation. The control can also be uniformly updated across the plurality of application programs by simply updating the underlying control on which the customized instances are based.

A compiler automatically builds a new version of an object server to be compatible with an existing version so that client applications built against the existing version are operable with the new version. The existing version object server retains type information relating to its classes and members in a type library. The compiler performs version compatibility analysis by comparing the new version object server against the type information in the existing version's type library. If the compatibility analysis determines that the new and existing versions are compatible, the compiler builds the new version object server to support at least each interface supported by the existing version object server. The compiler further associates version numbers with the new version object server indicative of its degree of compatibility with the existing version object server.

A compiler and compiling method minimizes recompilation of a computer program after an edit. The program is organized in plural program units, such as modules. The units are each compiled through a sequence of compilation states, including plural intermediate compilation states. In compiling each of the program units, dependencies between units are recorded in a table. When an edit to a program unit is later attempted, the edited unit is decompiled to one of various intermediate compilation states according to the edit performed. Units dependent of the edited unit are decompiled to one of various intermediate compilation states according to the dependency of the dependent unit on the edited unit. When next compiling the program, the units are compiled from their respective intermediate compilation state. Units also can be saved in various intermediate compilation states to minimize compiling when the program is again loaded.
