Disclosed is an elevator system for a building including an elevator and an elevator controller for communicating with a plurality of smart devices for passengers disposed on building levels, the controller rendering determinations including: a first determination that the controller receives from the smart devices requests for elevator service, a second determination to effect monitoring of smart devices relative to area limits on the levels, the area limits including the lobbies, a third determination to identify a first group of the smart devices that are within the area limits, a fourth determination to identify a first schedule that prioritizes elevator service within the first group based on a time of placement of elevator service requests, a fifth determination to instruct the elevator to provide elevator service following the first schedule, and wherein the controller effects a first communication in which the controller instructs the elevator to effect the fifth determination.

An elevator system includes a first elevator group controller configured to control a first elevator car of a first elevator group; a second elevator group controller configured to control a second elevator car of a second elevator group, the second elevator group controller in bi-directional communication with the first elevator group controller; a destination entry device configured to receive a destination call from a passenger, the destination call identifying a source floor and a destination floor; at least one of the first elevator group controller and the second elevator group controller determining that a journey from the source floor to the destination floor requires a first phase utilizing the first elevator group and a second phase utilizing the second elevator group; at least one of the first elevator group controller and the second elevator group controller allocating the first elevator car and allocating the second elevator car.

Aspects includes receiving, by the first controller, a first elevator destination call to a first floor, wherein the first destination call causes a first elevator car to dispatch to the first floor. First sensor data associated with a first passenger area associated with the first elevator car is collected, from the first sensor. A presence of a passenger in the first passenger area is detected based at least in part on the first sensor data. And the first elevator car is operated based on the presence of the passenger in the first passenger area.
