An example apparatus can comprise a memory; a processor executing instructions stored in the memory to: receive a message from an AP requesting a role in a network; based on receiving the message, access a deployment policy; determine whether the deployment policy is defined for the AP; and based on determining that the deployment policy is defined for the AP, assign the role to the AP corresponding to the deployment policy and corresponding to at least one of a centralized system or a distributed system of the network.

Systems and methods are provided for receiving data indicating a spatial distribution and 802.11ax capabilities of access point radios and of client devices in a network, assigning the access point radios as either first access point radios or second access point radios, the first access point radios conducting data transmission using an 802.11ax wireless standard and the second access point radios conducting data transmission using legacy wireless standards, based on the data, determining whether any of the client devices are to be steered to a different access point radio based on the 802.11ax capabilities of the client devices, and in response to determining that a client device is to be steered to a different access point radio, steering the client device to a first access point radio or a second access point radio.

Embodiments are directed to host discovery for firewall coordination. An embodiment of a storage medium includes instructions for discovering a network topology for a network branch, the network branch including multiple access points including a first access point, the first access point having an interface to a network, the discovery of the network topology including identifying any access point that is linked to the first access point directly or via one or more intermediary access points; discovering one or more host devices that are connected by wireless or wired connections to one or more access points in the network branch; and generating a firewall coordination plan for the network branch based on the discovered network topology and the discovered one or more hosts, the firewall coordination plan including applying a firewall process for an access point to which a first host device is attached and bypassing one or more other firewall processes.

An example non-transitory computer readable medium comprising instructions executable by a processor to: determine a channel distribution vector based on a channel priority for a plurality of available wireless channels within a wireless network; receive a set of constraints on a channel plan; determine a channel plan meeting the set of user defined constraints based on the channel distribution vector; and transmit the channel plan to a plurality of radios on the wireless network, wherein the channel plan comprises a channel assigned to each radio of the plurality of radios.

Embodiments are directed to access point deployment in a network including a centralized system and a distributed system. An embodiment of an apparatus includes a memory and a processor executing instructions stored in the memory. The instructions include instructions to receive a message from an access point (AP) requesting a role in a network and, based on reception of the message, to access a deployment policy. The instructions further include instructions to determine whether the deployment policy is defined for the AP and, based on a determination that the deployment policy is defined for the AP, to assign the role to the AP corresponding to the deployment policy and corresponding to at least one of a centralized system or a distributed system of the network.

An example access point comprising: a memory; and a processor executing instructions stored in the memory to: determine a first interference event while operating on a first channel, wherein the first channel is designated to the access point in a global channel plan by a network controller based on a global view of a wireless network; switch to operate on a second channel from the first channel for a first amount of time in response to the first interference event; determine a second interference event of the same event type as the first interference event on the first channel, wherein the second interference event is the same event type as the first interference event; and switch to operate on the second channel from the first channel for a longer amount of time than the first amount of time, wherein the second channel is selected based on a local view of the wireless network by the access point.

Examples of the present disclosure include: obtain data collected from a plurality of access points (APs) in a WLAN, including a current allocation of channels to radios of the APs according to a current channel plan; calculate a new channel plan which assigns a different channel to at least one of the radios; calculate a first metric that predicts better network performance achieved by the new channel plan than the current allocation of channels to the radios; determine whether the first metric exceeds a first predetermined threshold; and implement the new channel plan in response to determining that the first metric exceeds the first predetermined threshold.

The method may also relate to determining whether the plurality of channel bandwidth values provide a frequency reuse distance that is greater than a threshold frequency reuse distance, wherein the frequency reuse distance is estimated based at least on the pathloss measurement and, based on a determination that at least one of the plurality of channel bandwidth values provides the frequency reuse distance that is greater than the threshold frequency reuse distance, configuring a channel plan for the plurality of networks with a channel bandwidth value from the at least one of the plurality of channel bandwidth values.

The present disclosure discloses a system and a method for conveying information using broadcast frames. Specifically, a network device detects a first wireless signal comprising a beacon frame transmitted by an access point in a network. The network device then identifies a radio Frequency (RF) channel indicated in the beacon frame. Responsive to identifying the RF channel in the beacon frame, the network device selects the RF channel to convey information to one or more network elements using a broadcast frame. Moreover, the network device transmits the broadcast frame to the one or more network elements. Note that, the broadcast frame includes information corresponding to a detected second wireless signal.

A method includes determining a subset, of a set of access points, that a client device is likely to roam to from a first access point in the set of access points; transmitting to each of the subset of access points, without transmitting to a second access point in the set of access points that is not included in the subset, information associated with the client device; wherein the information associated with the client device is used by the client device or by the third access point during (a) an association process for the client device associating with the third access point or (b) an authentication process for the authentication of the client device by the third access point.

The present disclosure discloses a system and method for monitoring link quality between internetworking devices. The system includes a processor and a memory storing instructions that, when executed, cause the system to: generate, at a first internetworking device, a marker-request packet that includes a current marker ID; send, from the first internetworking device, the marker-request packet to a second internetworking device; receive, at the first internetworking device, a marker-reply packet that responds to the marker-request packet from the second internetworking device, the marker-reply packet including the current marker ID and a previous marker ID; and determine, at the first network device, a link quality between the first internetworking device and the second internetworking device based at least in part on the marker-reply packet.
