Embodiments of systems and methods to provide a firmware update to devices configured in a redundant configuration in an Information Handling System (IHS) are disclosed. In an illustrative, non-limiting embodiment, an IHS may include first and second Remote Access Controllers (RACs) that each includes computer-executable instructions to receive, by the first RAC, a firmware update image associated with the firmware device, and commence transfer of the firmware update image to the firmware device to perform a firmware update on the firmware device using an update mode that restricts another update request to the firmware device until the first RAC finishes or cancels the firmware update. When the transfer is halted prior to completion, the program instructions cause the second RAC to determine where the firmware update image transfer was halted, and commence transferring the remainder of the firmware update image that has not yet been transferred to the firmware device.

Systems and methods for coordinated firmware update using multiple remote access controllers

In one or more embodiments, one or more systems may provision a virtual console as a service. A remote access controller (RAC) may communicate virtual console content to a virtual console service (VCS) executing on a private cloud server, enabling recording of larger amounts of virtual console content (VCC) and more advanced processing of the VCC by the private cloud server. For this non-registered hardware device, the BMC generates power profile data. Using the power profile data of the non-registered hardware device, the BMC determines a level of electrical power to sufficiently supply the plurality of hardware devices of the IHS, and controls one or more power supply units to supply the determined level of electrical power to the plurality of hardware devices.

An information handling system may include a host system that includes a host system processor and a host system memory coupled to the host system processor. The information handling system may further include a management controller configured to provide out-of-band management of the host system. The management controller may be configured to establish a virtual console session between the host system and a remote terminal. The management controller may further be configured to, in response to a command from the remote terminal to send data from the remote terminal to the host system, receive the data from the remote terminal; and transmit the data to the host system character-by-character via a keyboard interface of the host system.

The baseboard management controller determines whether or not the human interface device descriptor buffer is full and copying, when the human interface device descriptor buffer is full, the human interface scan codes in the human interface device descriptor buffer to a memory segment and sending an error code to a host system. The baseboard management controller also clears the human interface device descriptor buffer and re-populates the human interface device descriptor buffer with the human interface device scan code and the human interface device scan codes from the memory segment.

An information handling system may include a host system and a management controller configured to provide out-of-band management of the information handling system. The management controller may be configured to: receive, from a management console, a request to establish virtual media for the host system; cause the requested virtual media to be mounted as a drive accessible to the host system; receive read requests from the host system for data associated with the mounted drive; and cache data from the virtual media in a local cache such that at least some of the read requests from the host system are serviceable via the local cache instead of via a network request to the management console.

An information handling system includes a first graphics processing unit (GPU) with a first high-speed interface, a second GPU with a second high-speed interface coupled to the first high-speed interface, and a baseboard management controller (BMC). The first GPU is configured to receive a command to provide management data to the BMC, and to provide first management data associated with the first GPU to the first GPU via the first high-speed interface in response to receiving the command. The second GPU is configured to receive the command, to receive the first management data via the second high-speed interface in response to receiving the command, and to provide the first management data and second management data associated with the second GPU to the BMC in further response to the command.

System and method for graphics processing unit management infrastructure for real time data collection

An information handling system includes a processor, a graphics processing unit (GPU) including an interrupt interface coupled to the processor, and a low-speed interface, and a baseboard management controller (BMC) coupled to the low-speed interface. The GPU is configured to receive a first command from the BMC via the low-speed interface to halt processing data, to send a first interrupt to the processor via the interrupt interface in response to receiving the first command, to determine that the processor has halted sending data to the first GPU in response to the first interrupt, and to send a first reply to the command in response to determining that the processor has halted sending data. The BMC is configured to reboot the first GPU without rebooting the processor in response to receiving the first reply.

System and method for graphics processing unit firmware updates

A method, an information handling system (IHS), and a system for capturing video data and serial data during an IHS failure. The method includes detecting, via a controller, an occurrence of a system event log (SEL) incident in the IHS. In response to detecting the occurrence of the SEL incident in the IHS, a data recording window is retrieved from a volatile controller memory. The data recording window contains video data and serial data for a time period up to a time of detection of the SEL incident. The method further includes storing the data recording window including the video data and the serial data for the time period to a non-volatile controller memory.

Embodiments of systems and methods for providing video redirection across multiple Information Handling Systems (IHSs) are discussed. In some embodiments, a method may include: receiving, via a video redirection client, a video stream produced by a video redirection server executed by a Baseboard Management Controller (BMC) of a selected IHS; providing the video stream to a framebuffer driver, where the frame buffer driver is configured to: (i) store frame data from the video stream onto a framebuffer memory; and (ii) in response to a determination that a host is not available, transmit control signals to a graphics core via an Advanced Microcontroller Bus Architecture (AMBA) high-performance bus (AHB)-to-Peripheral Component Interconnect (PCI) (AHB-to-PCI) bridge, where the graphics core is accessible via a PCI bus exclusively when the host is available; and transmitting the frame data to a display coupled to the chassis.

Embodiments provide a proxy between device management messaging protocols that are used to manage devices that are I2C bus endpoints coupled to a remote access controller. A map is generated of the detected I2C bus endpoints. Mapped I2C bus endpoints that support PLDM (Platform Level Data Model) messaging are identified. Next, the mapped I2C bus endpoints that do not correspond to an identified PLDM endpoint are presumed to be IPMI (Intelligent Platform Management Interface) endpoints and are mapped accordingly. A virtual PLDM endpoint for each of the presumed IPMI I2C bus endpoints. A remote access controller is configured for use of PLDM messaging with the virtual PLDM endpoints such that these PLDM messages are translated by the proxy to equivalent IPMI commands and transmitted to the IPMI endpoints. The proxy similarly converts IPMI messages from the IPMI endpoints to equivalent PLDM messages and provided to the remote access controller via the virtual PLDM endpoint.

Embodiments of systems and methods for reducing Keyboard, Video, and Mouse (KVM) downtime during firmware update or failover events are discussed. In some embodiments, a chassis may include: a plurality of Information Handling Systems (IHSs); a first Enclosure controller (EC); and a second EC coupled to the first EC, where the first and second ECs comprise program instructions stored thereon that, upon execution, cause the chassis to: establish a KVM session with a selected IHS via the first EC; in response to the first EC receiving a firmware update command, update and restart the second EC; notify the first EC, by the second EC, that the update and restart is completed; trigger by a first KVM process in the first EC, a second KVM process in the second EC; and take control, by the second EC, of the KVM session.

In an embodiment, an Information Handling System (IHS) may include a Baseband Management Controller (BMC); and a memory coupled to the BMC, the memory having program instructions stored thereon that, upon execution by the BMC, cause the BMC to: receive a request from a remote client, where the request follows a first protocol; select one of a plurality of redirection components available to the IHS to populate a framebuffer with video frames using a second protocol; retrieve the video frames from the framebuffer; and transmit a response to the remote client following the first protocol, where the response comprises the video frames.
