Techniques to facilitate enhanced addressing of local and network resources from a computing system are provided herein. In one implementation, a method of operating an object-based memory management unit on a computing system to unify addressing of local and network resources includes maintaining a mapping of virtual addresses to local addresses and network addresses, and identifying resource requests that use the virtual addresses. The method further provides handling the resource requests per the mapping, and wherein a given request of the resource requests implicates a network resource, accessing the network resource associated with the given request over at least the network.

Object memory management unit

Techniques to facilitate enhanced addressing of local and network resources from a computing system are provided herein. In one implementation, a method of configuring an object memory management unit (OMMU) for a computing system includes transferring a request to at least one network configuration resource for OMMU configuration information, and receiving the OMMU configuration information from the at least one network resource. The method further comprises, based on the OMMU configuration information, generating a mapping of virtual addresses in the computing system to local addresses that address local resource of the computing system and network addresses that address network resources external to the computing system over at least a network.

Disclosed herein are systems, methods, and software for attaching applications to a computing device based on a file type selection. In one example, a method for operating an application attaching system to dynamically make applications available to a computing device includes identifying an application attach triggering event based on a file selection of a certain file type on the computing device. The method further includes, in response to the application attach triggering event, identifying an application within an application volume based on the certain file type. The method also includes attaching the application volume to computing device, and associating the application to the certain file type on the computing device.

A command from an application is received to access a data structure associated with one or more virtual addresses mapped to main memory. A first subset of the virtual addresses for the data structure having constituent addresses that are mapped to the symmetric memory components and a second subset of the virtual addresses for the data structure having constituent addresses that are mapped to the asymmetric memory components are identified. Data associated with the virtual address from the first physical addresses and data associated with the virtual addresses from the second physical addresses are accessed. A computer system is disclosed including a printed circuit board (PCB) including a plurality of traces, at least one processor mounted to the PCB to couple to some of the plurality of traces, a heterogeneous memory channel including a plurality of sockets coupled to a memory channel bus of the PCB, and a memory controller coupled between the at least one processor and the heterogeneous memory channel. The heterogeneous memory channel includes a plurality of sockets coupled to a memory channel bus of the PCB. The plurality of sockets are configured to receive a plurality of different types of memory modules. The memory controller may be a programmable heterogeneous memory controller to flexibly adapt to the memory channel bus to control access to each of the different types of memory modules in the heterogeneous memory channel.

Examples disclosed herein provide systems, methods, and software to attach updated applications to computing devices. In one instance, a method of attaching updated applications to a computing device includes identifying an application update for an application stored on the computing device, and determining an updated application volume containing an updated version of the application. The method further includes mounting the updated application volume to the computing device, and overlaying the updated version of the application with the application stored on the computing device.

Main memory is managed by receiving a command from an application to read data associated with a virtual address that is mapped to the main memory. A memory controller determines that the virtual address is mapped to one of the symmetric memory components of the main memory, and accesses memory use characteristics indicating how the data associated with the virtual address has been accessed, The memory controller determines that the data associated with the virtual address has access characteristics suited to an asymmetric memory component of the main memory and loads the data associated with the virtual address to the asymmetric memory component of the main memory. After the loading and using the memory management unit, a command is received from the application to read the data associated with the virtual address, and the data associated with the virtual address is retrieved from the asymmetric memory component.

In one example, a method of operating a volume combining system to combine volumes for a virtual machine includes identifying two or more volumes to be attached to the virtual machine. The method further provides combining the two or more volumes into a single volume, and attaching the single volume to the virtual machine.
