The disclosure describes systems and methods for dynamically enabling and disabling data aggregation control. A device can communicate with an access point or a station. A first wireless chip in the access point can establish a wireless connection with a second wireless chip in the station. The first wireless chip and second wireless chip can negotiate during setup of the wireless connection whether to enable aggregation of data via the wireless connection. The device can detect that a flow of packets traversing the wireless connection corresponds to a low-latency application. Upon detection, the device can communicate information to the first wireless chip and the second wireless chip to cause the first wireless chip and the second wireless chip to dynamically disable the aggregation of data being communicated by the low-latency application over the wireless connection.

Systems and methods for dynamically enabling and disabling aggregation control

Queue management for latency control is provided. A method includes receiving packets of multiple flows, each of the packets including an arrival time stamp. The method can include classifying, based on a type of application, the flows for transmission as higher priority via a higher priority channel, or lower priority via a lower priority channel. The method can include determining, for packets for the flows classified as higher priority, a queue of one or more second queues to use for transmission and a departure time stamp for each of the packets according to a latency budget for the type of application. The method can include communicating the higher priority packets with the departure time stamp to a corresponding queue of the one or more second queues based on the type of application. A transmission scheduler can prioritize transmission of packets from the second queues based on the departure time stamp.

Systems for and methods for queue management for latency control

A device is provided that includes computer-readable storage media storing one or more sequences of instructions and processing circuitry configured to execute the one or more sequences of instructions. Upon executing the instructions, the processing circuitry may receive a plurality of network packets containing content encapsulated in a plurality of layers; process the received plurality of network packets to extract the content for presentation; generate a predicted presentation quality indicator for the extracted content using a plurality of machine learning models in a hierarchical order with data generated during processing of the received plurality of network packets used as inputs to the plurality of machine learning models; and provide the predicted presentation quality indicator for the extracted content to a server via a network, wherein the data generated during processing of the received plurality of network packets is correlated across the plurality of layers to generate the predicted presentation quality indicator.

Video quality monitoring system

Novel tools and techniques are provided for implementing encoding or decoding of adaptive bitrate streams. In various embodiments, one or more first computing systems may divide a live media content stream into one or more segments, each segment might include a starting segment boundary and an ending segment boundary. The one or more first computing systems might encode the one or more segments into one or more primary adaptive bitrate streams. The one or more first computing systems might also divide the one or more segments of the live media content stream into one or more subsegments. Each subsegment might be less than a length of a corresponding segment of the one or more segments. The one or more first computing systems might the encode and/or a second computing system might decode the one or more subsegments into or from one or more secondary adaptive bitrate streams.

Gapped and/or subsegmented adaptive bitrate streams

Disclosed herein are related to communication systems and methods for converting between lossy communication protocol packets and lossless communication protocol packets. In one aspect, the communication system includes a server, a set top box, and an intermediate node. In some embodiments, the intermediate node is configured to receive a lossy communication protocol packet from the server, convert the lossy communication protocol packet to a lossless communication protocol packet, and transmit the converted lossless communication protocol packet to the set top box.

Systems and methods for converting between a lossy communication protocol and a lossless communication protocol

In some aspects, the disclosure is directed to methods and systems for receiving high data transmission channels, where the system may have a first set top box and a second set top box. The first set top box may contain a tuner configured to receive via a broadcast network, a portion of a channel bonded data stream. The first set top box may also contain a network interface to a local network to send the portion to the network interface of a second set top box. The second set top box may also contain a tuner configured to receive another portion of the channel bonded data stream. The second set top box may then be configured to debond the portions received before combining the portions of the channel bonded data stream for output.

Channel debonding of multiple tuners in different set top boxes

A network device providing audio-video packet delivery over a local area network may include a memory and at least one processor. The at least one processor may be configured to receive data packets from a server, the data packets being addressed to an electronic device downstream from the network device. The at least one processor may be further configured to determine whether the data packets satisfy an offload condition. The at least one processor may be further configured to, when the data packets satisfy the offload condition: transmit, to the server, acknowledgement packets corresponding to the received data packets, store the data packets in a buffer, transmit the data packets to the electronic device, and retransmit the data packets to the electronic device responsive to request therefor, the retransmitted data packets being retrieved from the buffer.

Audio-video (AV) packet delivery over a local area network

Different data communication architectures deliver a wide variety of content, including audio and video content, to consumers. The architectures employ channel bonding to deliver more bandwidth than any single communication channel can carry. In some implementations, different network types may be channel bonded to function as a single logical channel.

Channel bonding with multiple network types

In some aspects, the disclosure is directed to methods and systems for improved bandwidth for DVB-S2X bonded channels. A high bandwidth stream may be split to a plurality of partial streams, including inserted null packets. Modulators may remove the null packets while maintaining a synchronization counter. The counter value may be inserted in headers of transmitted data packets in reduced bandwidth output streams, without requiring explicit identification of removed or deleted null packets. Downstream modulators may recover and remerge the partial streams via the synchronization counters. As explicit deleted null packet identifiers are omitted, header sizes are reduced, further increasing payload/header efficiency ratios.

Transmission bandwidth improvements for DVB-S2X channel bonding

A stream at a source device may be transmitted over multiple channels. At the input of the channels the packets from the stream may be grouped into chunks. Informational packets may be appended to the chunks. The informational packets may include sequencing information for the chunks and packet-to-packet timing information. The chunks may then be distributed over the multiple channels. After transmission over the channels, the informational packets may be extracted from the chunks. Reconstruction circuitry, at the destination device, may determine the sequence of the chunks at the source device based on the sequencing information. The reconstruction circuitry may also determine relative timings of the packets within the single stream based on the packet-to-packet timing information. The packets may be released from buffers in accord with the determined packet-to-packet timing information and the sequencing information to recreate the relative timings within the single stream at the destination device.

Packet-to-packet timing reconstruction for channel bonding

A system for lossless switching of traffic in a network device may be implemented when a network switch is integrated into a gateway device, or with any other data source. A processor of the gateway device may receive queue depth information for queues of the network switch. The processor may prevent data from being transmitted to congested queues of the network switch, while allowing data to be transmitted to uncongested queues. In this manner, data loss can be avoided through the network switch for data sourced from the gateway device, such as audio-video data retrieved from a hard drive, audio-video data received from a tuner, etc. Furthermore, re-transmission at higher layers can be reduced. Since the subject system observes congestion for each individual queue, only traffic destined to that particular, congested, queue is affected, e.g. paused. Traffic to non-congested queues is not affected, regardless of traffic class or egress port.

Lossless switching of traffic in a network device

A distributed adaptive bit rate (ABR) proxy system may include a gateway device that includes a first transcoder and is configured to receive segments of a content item from an ABR server, and a secondary device that includes a second transcoder and is configured to receive the segments of the content item from the gateway device. The first transcoder may transcode the segments based at least in part on a first ABR profile to generate first transcoded segments, and the second transcoder may transcode the segments based at least in part on a second ABR profile to generate second transcoded segments. The gateway device may advertise the first and second ABR profiles to user devices and may transmit the first transcoded segments to the user devices in response to requests therefor. The secondary device may transmit the second transcoded segments to the user devices in response to requests therefor.

Distributed adaptive bit rate proxy system

Different data communication architectures deliver a wide variety of content, including audio and video content, to consumers. The architectures employ channel bonding to deliver more bandwidth than any single communication channel can carry. In some implementations, the communication architectures distribute data streams to bonded channels that are clocked independently. A system is provided for synchronizing the bonded channels.
