A method includes introducing a fluoro-based small molecule tracer into a stimulation fluid, injecting the stimulation fluid into a target zone of a subterranean formation, and maintaining the fluoro-based small molecule tracer inside the target zone of the subterranean formation for an amount of time. While being maintained inside the target zone, the fluoro-based small molecule tracer comes into contact with water at a downhole temperature resulting in hydrolysis of the fluoro-based small molecule tracer to produce a fluorinated tracer and a nonfluorinated group. Then, produced fluid that includes the fluorinated tracer is recovered, a concentration of the fluorinated tracer in the hydrocarbons is determined, and the concentration of the fluorinated tracer is correlated to a productivity of the target zone of the subterranean formation.

Oil, gas and water well tracers with tunable release profile

A method for monitoring gas production in a subterranean formation includes introducing a polymer composite particle having a degradable portion and a non-degradable portion including a tracer into a stimulation fluid and injecting the stimulation fluid into the subterranean formation to a treatment stage of a treatment zone. The treatment stage has at least one opening that the polymer composite particle may flow into and remain inside. The polymer composite particle may be exposed to moisture at a downhole temperature while inside the at least one opening. The moisture may degrade the degradable portion of the polymer composite particle, thereby releasing the non-degradable portion including the tracer. Produced gas that includes the non-degradable portion including the tracer may be recovered from the subterranean formation and the tracer may be correlated to the treatment stage of the treatment zone of the subterranean formation.

Partially degradable particulates as time-released tracers for acidized and fractured gas wells

Treatment fluids for acid stimulation operations and methods related thereto. Treatment fluids comprise: an aqueous acid solution comprising a mineral acid and an organic acid; and a retardation additive comprising: 1-15 wt % of an oleaginous liquid; 5-30 wt % of a fatty alkyl alcohol ethoxylate; 2-40 wt % of at least one of a fatty alkyl ethoxylated ammonium salt, a zwitterionic surfactant, an alkyl ether sulfate salt, or an alkyl ether sulfonate salt; 4-30 wt % of a co-solvent; and 10-85 wt % of an aqueous fluid, each wt % based on a total mass of the retardation additive. Treatment fluids or retardation additives may be oil-in-water emulsions. Treatment fluids may have 0.5-5 gallons per thousand, based on an overall volume of the treatment fluid of the retardation additive. Methods comprise providing and introducing the treatment fluid into a subterranean formation during a stimulation operation.

Treatment fluids for acid stimulation operations and methods related thereto

Described is a polymer-based well tracer. The polymer-based well tracer is a fluoropolymer having a fluorinated group. The fluoropolymer may be formed into a particle, a coating for proppant particulates, or encapsulated in a polymeric resin. Upon degradation or hydrolysis of the fluoropolymer, the fluorinated group having a fluorinated compound is released within the well.

The composition includes at least one acid, and liquid or supercritical carbon dioxide (CO). The method further includes exposing the delivered composition to water to activate the composition; and treating a rock formation of the hydrocarbon reservoir with the activated composition.

The water-soluble polymers may include a reaction product of a first monomer that has a vinyl-containing group linked to a pendant carbohydrate moiety; a second monomer that has a vinyl group, a carbonyl group and a nitrogen; an anionic monomer in a water-soluble anionic terpolymer; and a cationic monomer in a water-soluble cationic terpolymer. Further provided are aqueous solutions that may include a water-soluble bipolymer, a water-soluble anionic terpolymer, and a water-soluble cationic terpolymer. Further provided are methods of use that may include introducing an aqueous solution into a formation such that the formation fractures, where the aqueous solution may include a water-soluble bipolymer, a water-soluble anionic terpolymer, and a water-soluble cationic terpolymer.

Methods and systems including a composition of a hydratable polymer slurry comprising a hydrocarbon-based solvent. The hydrocarbon-based solvent includes a hydratable polymer powder and at least one of a polar surfactant, a hydrocarbon-soluble polymer, and/or an organophilic clay, wherein the polymer slurry is prepared at a temperature greater than 22° C. by mixing.

Reduced-polymer-loading, high-temperature fracturing fluids and methods and systems related thereto

Unconventional hydrocarbon source rock reservoirs can contain the organic material kerogen, intertwined with the rock matrix. The kerogen can alter the tensile strength of the rock and contribute to higher fracture energy needs. To degrade kerogen and other organic materials, oxidizing gasses are dissolved in carbon dioxide (CO) which is then used as part of a fracturing fluid. The oxidizing gasses can be dissolved directly in the COor generated in situ using precursors.

A 3D printed proppant includes a core having support bars extending from the core to a shell, the shell encapsulating the core and the support bars. Another 3D printed proppant includes a porous core and a shell encapsulating the porous core, where the porous core has a porosity from 25% to 75%. The 3D printed proppant has a particle size from 8 mesh to 140 mesh. The core, the support bars, the porous core, the shell, or combinations thereof includes metal, polymer, ceramic, composite, or combinations thereof. Additionally, a method for producing a 3D printed proppant is provided.

A formation treatment fluid may include a wettability alteration agent, a solvent, an injection gas, and an optional foaming agent. The wettability alteration agent may include a fluorinated surfactant, a silicon-based surfactant, charged nanoparticles partially modified with fluorine containing groups, or combinations thereof. Methods for altering a hydrocarbon-bearing reservoir surface wettability may include providing the formation treatment fluid, injecting the formation treatment fluid into the hydrocarbon-bearing reservoir, and recovering fluids produced from the hydrocarbon-bearing reservoir.
