A device obtains proof of its authority to use a first set of selectively activated features (first proof). An authorization server signs the first proof with its private key. The device sends a request to use a network service to a network node. The device sends the first proof to the network node. The network node validates the first proof using a public key of the authorization server. The network node grants the request to use the network service. The device sends a request for proof of authority for the network node to provide the network service (second proof). The device obtains the second proof, signed by another authorization server, and validates the second proof before using the network service. The first proof and the second proof each include a list of selectively activated features, where the selectively activated features are needed to use or provide the network service.

Validating authorization for use of a set of features of a device

One or more selectively activated features needed at a device to use a network service may be identified. Authorization information and feature activation key(s) associated with features that the device has been authorized to activate may be obtained at the device. The feature activation key(s) may be used to activate and/or maintain activation of the authorized features that match the selectively activated feature(s) needed to use the network service. An authorization server may obtain a request to activate one or more selectively activated features of a device. The authorization server may verify that the selectively activated feature(s) are authorized to be used at the device based on an authorization agreement obtained at the authorization server. The authorization server may send proof that the device is authorized to use the selectively activated feature(s) and may send feature activation key(s) based on the authorization agreement in response to the request.

Subsystem for authorization and activation of features

Disclosed herein are techniques for light beam scanning in a light detection and ranging (LIDAR) system. The LIDAR system includes a beam shaping subsystem configured to generate an illumination pattern elongated in a first direction, and a scanning subsystem configured to direct the elongated illumination pattern towards a plurality of positions along a second direction different from the first direction. The LIDAR system further includes a sensor configured to generate a detection signal in response to detecting light reflected by a target object illuminated by the elongated illumination pattern, and a processor configured to determine a characteristic of the target object based on the detection signal.

Techniques to test performance of terminals and access points in CDMA data (e.g., cdma2000) systems. A framework of protocols and messages is provided to support systematic performance testing of terminals and to ensure interface compatibility. The framework comprises a Forward Test Application Protocol (FTAP) for testing forward channels and a Reverse Test Application Protocol (RTAP) for testing reverse channels. Techniques are also provided to (1) test different types of channels (e.g., traffic channels as well as auxiliary channels), (2) test bursty data transmissions, (3) support 'persistence' testing (i.e., continued testing over connection and disconnection), (4) force the settings of certain auxiliary channels (e.g., so that the error rate of the channels may be determined), and (5) collect, log, and report various statistics that may be used to derive performance metrics such as throughput and packet error rate.

Method and System for Utilization of an Outer Decoder in a Broadcast Services Communication System is described. Information to be transmitted is provided to a systematic portion of a plurality of transmit buffers and encoded by an outer decoder communicatively coupled to the transmit buffer. The resulting redundant bits are provided to a parity portion of each transmit buffer. The content of the transmit buffers, is multiplexed and encoded by an inner decoder to improve protection by adding redundancy. The receiving station recovers the transmitted information by an inverse process. Because a decoding complexity depends on the size of a systematic portion of the transmit buffer, reasoned compromise between a systematic portion size and number of transmit buffers yields decreased decoding complexity.

Method and system for reduction of decoding complexity in a communication system

This disclosure provides a synchronous packet manager containing a data structure for scheduling future synchronous packet transmissions and arbitrating between synchronous and asynchronous packet transmissions. Slots required for transmitting a synchronous packet are reserved by marking the corresponding entries in a synchronous packet reservation table. Rather than writing packets to many different queues, the application software fills in a single reservation table per BTS sector.

Embodiments disclosed herein relate to methods and systems for providing adaptive server selection in wireless communications. An access terminal may be configured to determine a forward link quality metric associated with each of a plurality of sectors serviced by a plurality of access points; assign credits to each sector in relation to the forward link quality metric; and change a data source control (DSC) value if the credits accumulated for a non-serving sector at a DSC change boundary is greater than a predetermined threshold, where the non-serving sector and the serving sector for the access terminal belong to different cells. The access terminal may be further configured to change a data rate control (DRC) cover in accordance with the DSC change. The use of DSC may provide an early indication of handoff, thereby allowing the service outage associated with server switching to be substantially reduced.

Methods and systems for adaptive server selection in wireless communications

A network entity includes a processor configured to regulate the data rate of transmissions over a wireless channel from a base station to a subscriber station based on feedback from the subscriber station, the feedback relating to the wireless channel conditions, the processor being further configured to determine a substitute data rate for one or more transmissions over the wireless channel.

Method and apparatus for controlling a transmission data rate based on feedback relating to channel conditions

Techniques for performing admission control based on quality-of-service (QoS) performance in a wireless communication network are described. QoS performance (e.g., delay or throughput performance) of admitted data flows may be determined. Whether to admit or reject a new data flow may then be determined based on the QoS performance of the admitted data flows. The admitted and new data flows may have delay bounds. The QoS performance of the admitted data flows may be given by a measured sector delay, which may be determined based on actual delays of packets. A measured flow delay for each admitted data flow may be determined based on delays of packets for that flow. The measured sector delay may then be determined based on the measured flow delays for all admitted data flows. The new data flow may be admitted if the measured sector delay is less than a delay threshold.

Admission control based on QoS performance in a wireless communication network

Micro-tunnels are used to provide multiple data service sessions to the same mobile node in a wireless communications system. Further, the flexibility of the micro-tunnels optimizes the resources of the system. On request for a data service, an encapsulation configuration record is generated. An encapsulation header is created in response to the encapsulation configuration. The encapsulation header includes a packet service identifier and a micro-tunnel identifier.
