According to one configuration, an access point control resource receives channel allocation information indicating a change to allocation of channels in a wireless band currently used by multiple wireless access points to communicate with multiple communication devices in a network. The access point control resource uses the channel allocation information to identify a particular wireless channel (such as a de-allocated wireless channel) to be terminated from use by the multiple wireless access points. In accordance with the channel allocation information, when vacating use of the de-allocated channel, the access point control resource controls an order of terminating use of the particular wireless channel by the multiple wireless access points.

Network management and wireless channel adjustment

A mobile communication device generates a respective request (such as a wireless communication) to access a network. An access point supporting communications over multiple carrier frequency bands receives the request from the mobile communication device to establish a wireless connection. A connection manager associated with the access point analyzes current load conditions associated with other mobile communication devices communicating with the access point over the multiple carrier frequency bands. Based at least in part on the current load conditions, the connection manager selects a carrier frequency band from the multiple carrier frequency bands. The connection manager initiates notification to the mobile communication device to connect to the access point using the selected carrier frequency band.

Wireless spectrum usage and load-balancing

A communication management resource associated with a wireless access point in a network environment allocates use of a wireless channel and sub-channels over time to multiple communication devices in communication with the wireless access point. For example, during use, from a first communication device of the multiple communication devices competing for wireless bandwidth, the communication management resource receives a request for allocation of wireless bandwidth to communicate over a wireless communication link with the wireless access point. Subsequent to receiving the request, the communication management resource identifies an appropriate amount of wireless bandwidth suitable to satisfy the request for bandwidth from the first communication device. In accordance with the identified amount of wireless bandwidth needed to satisfy the request, the communication management resource subdivides the wireless channel for use by the first communication device and potentially other communication devices that request use of the available wireless bandwidth.

A wireless communication link can include an uplink and a downlink between a wireless access point and a computer device. The uplink supports communications from the computer device to the wireless access point. The downlink supports communications from the wireless access point to the computer device. The computer device executes a downlink monitor application to monitor events occurring on the downlink. The wireless access point or other suitable resource such as a remote management resource executes an uplink monitor application to monitor events occurring on the uplink. The uplink application and the downlink application log events using the same master clock. The remote management resource can be configured to analyze the uplink status information in view of the downlink status information to perform one or more functions such as troubleshooting, optimizing network settings, etc.

Monitoring and management of links in a wireless network

A mobile computer device establishes a wireless communication link between the mobile computer device and a first access point of multiple access points in a network environment. While wirelessly connected to the first access point, the mobile computer device monitors communications from a set of neighboring access points including at least a second access point of the multiple access points. The mobile computer device transmits performance information derived from the monitored communications to a controller resource. To alleviate a current load on the first access point, the controller resource generates control information to terminate the wireless communication link between the mobile computer device and the first access point and establish a replacement wireless communication link between the mobile computer device and a second access point.

Link management in a wireless network environment

Sensor based information from a base station is received by a configuration management device and is used to determine orientation, altitude and/or location. In some embodiments, the configuration management device compares measurement based information to corresponding expected values in a deployment plan to determine whether or not the base station has been correctly deployed. In some embodiments, the configuration management device uses received sensor based information from a base station to control re-configuration of the base station, e.g., re-orient an antenna or change an antenna pattern.

Methods and apparatus for managing and/or configuring base stations which include sensors

A method, apparatus and computer-readable medium for improving push-to-talk call setup speed by disabling an idle mode of a mobile station are provided. According to the method, a deregistration request is received from a mobile station. The base station determines whether a push-to-talk service flow exists for the mobile station, based upon a unique identifier for push-to-talk service flow for the mobile station. If the service flow does exist, then the base station transmits a deregistration command to the mobile station including an action code that instructs the mobile station to disable its idle mode and change its mobility feature supported field to sleep only mode. Since the time required to transition from sleep mode to active mode is less than from idle mode to sleep mode, the push-to-talk call setup speed is improved.

Method, apparatus and computer-readable medium for improving push-to-talk call setup speed

Systems and methods for dual wireless communication technology communications are provided. A mobile station communicates with two transceivers of a base site, where each transceiver operates according to a different wireless communication technology. The mobile station can communicate uplink and downlink control information with a first transceiver of the base site while also communicating uplink and downlink data with a second transceiver. Alternatively, the mobile station may transmit uplink transmissions only to a first transceiver and only receive downlink transmissions from a second transceiver.

The method includes allocating a first bandwidth for an uplink portion of an FDD data transmission; and allocating a second bandwidth for a downlink portion of the FDD data transmission; wherein the first bandwidth and the second bandwidth have different sizes.

Method, apparatus and computer-readable medium for asymmetric frequency division duplexing operation

Systems and methods of extending base station coverage are provided. Idle mode mobile stations supported by a base station are identified, and at least one of the idle mode mobile stations is selected based on a location of the at least one idle mode mobile station. A communication with an active mode mobile station that is associated with the at least one idle mode mobile station is established. The active mode mobile station is not able to directly receive communications from the base station, and the identification and selection of idle mode mobile stations and the establishment of the communication are performed by the base station.

System and method of extending base station coverage

Systems and methods of testing a wireless network are provided. Simulated user data, spread across all user data sub-carriers of all sub-channels of a frequency band assigned for transmissions, is transmitted by a number of base stations surrounding a base station under test. The power level of the simulated user data is determined based on a selected network load. A mobile station receives signals from the base station under test and the number of base stations, and the interference caused by the simulated user data to the transmission from the base station under test is determined. When less than 100% loading is employed for testing, the sub-channels carrying the simulated user data can vary on a frame-by-frame basis.
