Embodiments herein provide various apparatuses and techniques for providing a notification indicating guidance to reaching cellular connectivity in the event of a loss of cellular connectivity and for guiding a user of a user equipment to a location with cellular connectivity. In an embodiment, the notification may be generated based on expiration of a timer, a screen unlock operation, or an application connection failure. The notification may indicate how long ago the cellular connectivity loss occurred and how far away a nearest location with a cellular connectivity was. In an embodiment, the user equipment may display a map interface based on user input selecting the notification. The map interface may show a map of the current location of the user equipment, a nearest location with cellular connectivity to the user equipment, and a path, which includes a tracked path of user equipment and a proposed path to the nearest location with cellular connectivity.

Systems and methods for assisted cellular connectivity

Systems and methods performed by user equipment (UE) for communicating over a wireless communication network include receiving data representing one or more communication quality metrics for communication on a New Radio (NR) communication link of the wireless communication network. The method includes determining, based on the data representing the one or more communication quality metrics, a data throughput for the NR communication link of the wireless communication network. The method includes estimating a theoretical throughput for using a Long Term Evolution (LTE) communications link of the wireless network. The method includes comparing the data throughput using the NR communication link to the theoretical throughput for using the LTE communication link. The method includes causing a switch, based on the comparison, from the NR communication link to the LTE communication link.

System selection for high-throughput wireless communications

Mechanisms are provided for a user equipment (UE) to determine to use a shared resource such as an antenna to access a land based wireless communication system or a satellite communication system. The UE can provide a first priority indication to indicate whether to access the land based wireless communication system based on one or more wireless link metrics of the land based wireless communication system or one or more application metrics for applications using the land based wireless communication system; and provide a second priority indication to indicate whether to access the satellite wireless communication system based on one or more service metrics provided by the satellite wireless communication system. The UE can determine to use the shared resources to access the land based wireless communication system or the satellite communication system based on the first priority indication and the second priority indication.

Accessing a satellite communication system and a land based wireless communication system

This disclosure relates to techniques for a wireless device to determine whether to display an indicator of millimeter wave cellular availability. A wireless device may establish a radio resource control connection that includes connectivity with a fifth generation new radio millimeter wave cell. The wireless device may determine to display an indication of millimeter wave cell availability. The wireless device may determine location status information and motion status information for the wireless device. The wireless device may determine when to cease displaying the indication of millimeter wave cell availability after the radio resource control connection is released or the millimeter wave cell is deconfigured based at least in part on the location status information for the wireless device and the motion status information for the wireless device.

Determining whether to display an indicator of millimeter wave cellular availability

Techniques described herein may enable a user equipment (UE) to optimize radio access technology (RAT) and radio resources (e.g., bandwidth parts (BWPs)) when communicating with the network. This may be based on one or more factors or conditions, such as whether the UE is currently using 4th generation (4G) RAT or 5th generation (5G) RAT, whether the UE is in an active mode or idle mode, a BWP used by the UE, whether an application or network service requires a certain throughput, a type of application being used by the UE, an amount of network congestion, and so on. RAT optimization may also be based on whether the UE is using a frequency range 1 (FR1) or frequency range 2 (FR2), whether the UE is stationary or moving, whether the UE is experiencing beam failures, uplink (UL) switches, link quality measurements (LQMs), reference signal received power (RSRP) measurements, and so on.

Systems, methods, and devices for optimizing radio access technology and resource selection

Reporting potential impacts of sounding reference signal-switching (SRS-switching) to a base station may include determining that SRS-switching is to be performed by a UE. Based on determining that SRS-switching is to be performed, potential impacts to one or more of a plurality of radio access technologies (RATs) caused by performing SRS-switching while sharing radio frequency (RF) front-ends (RFFE) between at least a subset of the plurality of RATS may be processed. The potential impacts may comprise at least one of transmit-blanking (Tx-blanking) and receive-blanking (Rx-blanking) associated with one or more of the subset of RATs. A communication that indicates the potential impacts of SRS-switching may be encoded for transmission to a base station. The base station may also provide priority configurations for determining how to handle Tx-blanking, Rx-blanking, and SRS-skipping associated with SRS-switching.

SRS-switching enhancements for mitigating the impact of conflict and blanking

Embodiments described herein relate to managing access to 5G cellular baseband resources for 5G-capable wireless devices. A wireless device can monitor application workloads by analyzing communication network performance requirements for a given application in-use or launching for future use along with system-level indications of overall device usage, battery level, and mobility status to determine whether access to 5G cellular baseband resources is recommended for an application. A 5G cellular baseband resource recommendation is provided for an application indicating a level of bandwidth in current use or expected for future use as well as a confidence metric in the bandwidth level indication. The 5G cellular baseband resource recommendation is used with additional device criteria to determine whether access to one or more 5G radio frequency bands is allowed.

Smart data mode for 5G wireless devices

A method includes receiving an indication to transmit a first set of signals using a first standard (e.g., Long Term Evolution) via a first set of antennas of a radio frequency device and a second set of signals using a second standard (e.g., New Radio) via a second set of antennas. The method also includes transmitting the first set of signals via the first set of antennas using a first power based on positions of the first set and second set of antennas, exposure conditions of the first set and the second set of signals on a user, and/or priorities of the first and the second set of signals. Moreover, the method includes transmitting the second set of signals via the second set of antennas using a second power based on the positions of the antennas, the exposure conditions of the signals on the user, and/or priorities of the signals.

Transmission power management for concurrent operating radios

This disclosure relates to techniques for providing a framework for supporting custom signaling between a wireless device and a cellular network. A wireless device and a cellular base station may establish a wireless link. The wireless device and the cellular base station may perform custom signaling in accordance with the custom signaling framework.

Framework for supporting custom signaling between a wireless device and a cellular network

A user equipment (UE) passively determines the presence of a cellular network bottleneck in a downlink channel and may take appropriate actions to mitigate the bottleneck. The UE may analyze the transport block size (TBS) of slots of received downlink traffic and assign states the to various slots based on this analysis. Based on these assigned states, the UE may identify a burst of network traffic from network traffic received from the cellular network, and the UE may also determine the burst duration as well as a busy estimation. The UE may determine that the cellular network is experiencing a bottleneck based at least in part on the burst duration and the busy estimation.

Detecting cellular network bottlenecks using data allocation patterns

The exemplary embodiments relate to a user equipment configured to connect to a network that supports simultaneous connection to a first radio access technology (RAT) and a second RAT. The UE may receive coverage information associated with the first RAT and a cell of the second RAT, receive an indication of the current UE location relative to the cell of the second RAT and determine whether the first RAT is available for camping based on the coverage information and the indication of the current UE location relative to the cell of the second RAT.

Identifying new radio coverage availability in non-standalone mode

Apparatuses, systems, and methods for high data mode operation in cellular networks. A UE may determine, for an interface to a high-speed cellular network, a categorization from a plurality of categorizations, determine availability of the high-speed cellular network, and select, based at least in part on the categorization and availability of the high-speed cellular network, the interface for a data connection to the high-speed cellular network. The categorization may be one of expensive or not expensive and/or one of a first level associated with a higher compression codec rate or a second level associated with a lower compression codec rate. The UE may receive, from one of the a low-speed cellular network or the high-speed cellular network, carrier plan information for a cellular data service carrier and analyze the carrier plan information to determine desirability of a switch, e.g., from the low-speed cellular network to the high-speed cellular network.
