The method includes monitoring, by the MSS satellite, radio spectrum in a plurality of spot beams of the MSS satellite, determining a spectrum usage map of the radio spectrum in a first spot beam of the plurality of spot beams, where the spectrum usage map includes available frequency bands comprising licensed frequency bands and unlicensed frequency bands, and transmitting the spectrum usage map for use by the UE in the first spot beam. Methods and devices to generate a spectrum utilization map for devices in spot beams served by a mobile satellite service network

Disclosed are methods for allocating spectrum to a plurality of User Equipment (UEs) in a communication network served by a Mobile Satellite Service (MSS) satellite. The method includes receiving, by a first UE of the plurality of UEs, a spectrum usage map comprising one or more licensed frequency bands and one or more unlicensed frequency bands available for use by the first UE, selecting a communication frequency band among the one or more licensed frequency bands and the one or more unlicensed frequency bands, establishing, by the first UE, a communication link with the MSS satellite using the communication frequency band that was selected, and transmitting the spectrum usage map to one or more additional UEs of the plurality of UEs, wherein the additional UEs comprise a second UE. Systems/Methods are disclosed of enabling a number of first functions of a device while disabling a second function of the device. According to some embodiments, the device comprises a smartphone. Sensing of a physiological parameter of a user of the device is performed and a determination is made as to whether or not the physiological parameter sensed satisfies a criterion. Responsive to determining that the physiological parameter sensed satisfies the criterion, the device enables the number of first functions while disabling the second function. According to some embodiments, sensing of the physiological parameter is performed repeatedly followed by respectively comparing the physiological parameter sensed to the criterion and deciding whether or not to maintain enabled said number of first functions while maintaining disabled said second function.

Then, an authorization to establish said capability is requested and, responsive to receiving the authorization, the capability to be able to conduct the financial transaction is established at the smartphone. The capability that has been established may then be used in performing the financial transaction responsive to the smartphone sensing proximity to an access point maintained by a vendor and responsive to the physiological parameter being sensed and satisfying the criterion.
