Dynamic discovery of network functions in mobility interworking across radio access technologies

Core network slices that belong to a given operator community are efficiently tracked at the network control/user plane functions level, with rich data analytics in real-time based on their geographic instantiations. In one aspect, an enhanced vendor agnostic orchestration mechanism is utilized to connect a unified management layer with an integrated slice-components data analytics engine (SDAE), a slice performance engine (SPE), and a network slice selection function (NSSF) in a closed-loop feedback system with the serving network functions of one or more core network slices. The tight-knit orchestration mechanism provides economies of scale to mobile carriers in optimal deployment and utilization of their critical core network resources while serving their customers with superior quality.

A converged broadband access service controller (CBASC) for a 5G network provides for management of a passive optical network (PON) midhaul transport network path and a coaxial cable midhaul transport network path by receiving from RAN intelligent controller (RIC) or a network management system (NMS) a trigger for selecting a midhaul transport network path. The CBASC determines, based on analysis of concurrent traffic being transported, a selected midhaul transport path from among the PON and coaxial cable midhaul transport network paths. And the CBASC generates triggers to allocate and set up a service flow for the selected midhaul transport network path.

Techniques, performed by a distributed unit (DU) for a radio access network (RAN) node in a 5G communication network defining one or more cells, are disclosed for dynamically scheduling SIB8 warning messages. In some embodiments, in response to a write-replace warning request for broadcasting a SIB8 warning message, the DU determines a weightage of the SIB8 warning message; determines, based on the weightage, a system information periodicity for the SIB8 warning message and a change of one or both a default paging cycle and a modification period coefficient parameter to establish an initial delay before broadcasting the SIB8 warning message; and schedules a broadcast of the SIB8 warning message with broadcast timing based on the system information periodicity and pre-provisioned default paging cycle and modification period coefficient parameters.

A transport domain orchestrator (TDO) in a 5G network provides for dynamic configuration of a transport network resource (e.g., ports) and of a corresponding set of VLAN IDs to support a 5G service within a corresponding passive optical network (PON) transport network slice. The TDO, in response to a query in connection with establishing the 5G service, determines PON ports available in the PON to support the 5G service within the corresponding PON transport network slice; allocates the transport network resource for the corresponding PON transport network slice; determines the corresponding set of VLAN IDs for the 5G service, in which the corresponding set of VLAN IDs map the 5G service to the corresponding PON transport network slice and to the set of PON ports; and configures the PON to support the 5G service in the corresponding PON transport network slice, identified by the corresponding set of VLAN IDs.

Operations of a network device can comprise analyzing a group of contextual data for a user equipment device, and mobility management behaviors historically implemented for the user equipment device and based on an indication that a page request is scheduled to be sent to the user equipment device. The operations can also comprise configuring a paging message for the user equipment device based on the contextual data and the mobility management behaviors. Further, the operations can comprise sending the paging message to the user equipment device.

Device contexts, operational modes, and policy driven enhancements for paging in advanced networks

An O-DU is configured to facilitate, in a 5G wireless communication system having a DOCSIS xhaul (fronthaul, midhaul, or backhaul) transport system, pipelined 5G and DOCSIS latency. The O-DU is configured to receive a slice-, device-, and service-aware buffer status report (SDSABSR) indicating a UE is requesting an uplink grant for data transmission in the 5G wireless communication system; generate, based on the SDSABSR, a slice-, device-, and service-aware bandwidth reporting (SDSABR) trigger for a CMTS; and provide to the CMTS the SDSABR trigger to cause the CMTS to make QoS and resource granting decisions relative other requests from other devices in response to the SDSABR trigger and before receiving the data transmission.

Dynamic service aware bandwidth reporting and messaging for mobility low latency transport

Aspects of the subject disclosure may include, for example, a method that includes obtaining, by a processing system, real-time information regarding a state of a communication network and capabilities of the communication network; selecting a routing for delivering a message to user equipment (UE) coupled to the network, in accordance with the real-time information; and configuring a messaging path according to the routing. The method further includes detecting whether the UE is in a non-active state and if so, providing a notification on a user plane data path of the communication network; the UE on returning to an active state thus is notified that the message is available via the user plane data path. If the UE on returning to the active state is unable to receive the message via the user plane data path, the message is then provided on a control plane signaling path. Other embodiments are disclosed.

Intelligent route selection of messages for low-power wide-area devices and other devices

The disclosed technology is directed towards an integrated short message service (SMS) function and short message service center function that delivers mobile terminated messages by selecting among access domains for to endpoints based on their capabilities, e.g., 5G, 5G+, LTE WI-FI, including multimode capabilities. The integrated SMS function determines attributes (e.g., capabilities) of a user equipment destination device for a mobile terminated message, obtains contextual data (e.g., current device reachability, network conditions) for the device, and determines which access and mobility management function (AMF) or mobility management entity (MME) is associated with the device. Based on the various obtained information, the integrated SMS function selects an appropriate access domain based on the capabilities and contextual data, and if the device is reachable, correctly routes the message for delivery. Retry operations can be set up for devices that are not currently reachable.
