A method includes varying at least one condition of water in a water system while (i) measuring an amount of deposit control agent (DCA) in the water to detect a change in the amount of DCA in the water; and (ii) measuring scaling in the water system to detect a change in the amount of scaling; and correlating the detected change in the measured amount of DCA with the detected change in scaling in the water in order to predict and monitor the onset of scaling.

The water can be evaporated off of a surface of the metal product to provide a residual of the salt on the surface and/or a protective stannous film on the surface.

Disclosed herein are a method for treating a water stream in a zero liquid discharge (ZLD) system and a ZLD system. The method includes contacting the water stream with a metal agent that reduces a nitrate contained therein to a nitrite, and introducing an amide into the water stream that reduces the nitrite to nitrogen to provide a treated water stream having a reduced nitrate concentration. The ZLD system includes a mix tank, an amide tank including an amide, and a crystallizer. The mix tank includes an inlet for receiving a water stream within the mix tank, and a container including a metal agent. The container is designed to allow the water stream to contact the metal agent. The amide tank is designed to direct the amide into the water stream, and the crystallizer is designed to receive the water stream from the mix tank.

Methods and systems for removing nitrates in Zero Liquid Discharge applications

Methods and systems for detecting and quantifying film forming amines in water systems are described. Water containing a film forming amine is combined with a fluorescent dye, the pH of the water is reduced, and then the fluorescence signal of the fluorescent dye is measured. The fluorescence signal is indicative of the amount of film forming amine in the water, and can be used to quantify the amount of film forming amine and control the amount of film forming amine that is introduced into the water system.

A flue gas desulfurization (FGD) system in which a buffering additive feed directly adds a buffering additive containing acetic acid to either the FGD sump or a stream of the system that is downstream of the sump. A protective film can be formed on the corrodible metal surface.

Compositions and methods for inhibiting corrosion in hydrostatic systems

Methods are described for preventing corrosion in a corrosion-aggressive media. The methods include combining a stannous corrosion inhibitor composition with a corrosion-aggressive media (such as a nitrogen-based solution, or more specifically a liquid solution of AN or UAN) to provide a treated solution. The stannous corrosion inhibitor composition may include a caustic. Also described is a liquid including from 0.1 wt % to 25 wt % of a stannous salt and from 1 wt % to 50 wt % of a caustic, and a liquid composition including a solution of urea ammonium nitrate and a stannous material. The liquid and stannous corrosion inhibitor compositions substantially prevent corrosion of a metal surface even when used in very small amounts and at a low pH.

There are provided methods and methods and compositions for suppressing corrosion of a corrodible metal surface that contacts a water stream in a water system. The method comprises introducing into the water stream a treatment composition, the treatment composition including a Tin(II) corrosion inhibitor and a hydroxycarboxylic acid promoter.

There are provided methods of suppressing corrosion of a corrodible metal surface that contacts a water stream in a water system, the method comprising: (a) introducing into the water stream a shot dose of a treatment composition comprising a corrosion inhibitor, the shot dose being introduced into the water stream over a first time period and the water stream having a first concentration of corrosion inhibitor during the first time period; (b) then reducing the amount of treatment composition that is introduced into the water stream; and (c) after the first time period, maintaining a second concentration of corrosion inhibitor in the water stream over a second time period, the second concentration being less than 25% of the concentration of corrosion inhibitor during the first time period. There is also provided, after the second time period, introducing into the water stream a second shot dose of the corrosion inhibitor, the second shot dose being introduced into the water stream over a third time period, the third concentration being greater than the second concentration.
