An attachment module, having a fixing mechanism, couples detachably with a mobile device, thereby enabling a user to carry the module attached or detached from the mobile device. In at least one embodiment, the fixing mechanism includes an adhesive portion that binds the module to the mobile device. In at least one embodiment, the module holds a pair of wireless earphone to the mobile device in a position where the earphone speaker portion is generally positioned in line with the depth of the mobile device, thereby only minimally adding to the depth of the combined unit. In at least one embodiment, the module may be equipped with wired or wireless charging to charge its battery or that of the mobile device.

A wireless headset system includes a housing having at least a wireless communication component configured to communicate with a wireless host device. The housing includes: a body portion, an ear-bud portion having at least a speaker operatively coupled with the wireless communications component, and a neck portion having an ear-bud end and a body end, the ear-bud end coupled with the ear-bud portion, the body end coupled with the body portion. The housing is attachable on the wireless host device between an inner surface of the ear-bud portion and an inner surface of the body portion.

A peripheral unit comprises a housing having a portion configured to engage with a handheld host device of various sizes and electrical configurations. An attachment mechanism is associated with the housing, being used to selectively secure the housing to the handheld host device to form a one-piece apparatus suitable for handheld use. The attachment mechanism is secured to the host device by selective adjustment of the size to adapt to a host device. In addition, the peripheral unit may provide a universal connection to at least one electrical connector of the host device, to provide added input-output functions to the operation of the combined system.

Peripheral unit adapted to variably sized handheld host devices

An apparatus and method are disclosed that can adapt off-the shelf PDA devices () to user input/output applications such as data entry applications and cellular phone applications. The resulting apparatus () may be sized and shaped to be durable and facilitate handheld operation when the user is mobile during use. The apparatus provides features required for portable data entry such as key entry, barcode scanning, radio frequency identification, and wireless local area network (LAN) as well as wide area network (WAN) communications. The apparatus may be operated (a) in a slave mode with inclusion of a PDA device () for use in certain input/output operations that are processor intensive as well as (b) in a stand-alone mode without inclusion of a PDA device () for use in certain other input/output operations that are not processor intensive.

Portable data entry device with a detachable host PDA

The invention relates to a peripheral unit system that provides a universally usable system for adding peripheral functions to off-the-shelf handheld host devices of variable size and configuration. The system and methods according to the invention allow adaptation to variably sized handheld host devices without the need to customize the peripheral unit to the host device. The invention provides added functionality such as increased ruggedness and durability, while providing an integrated system in association with a handheld host device, to provide the convenience of a one-piece form-factor, without sacrificing universality of the solution. A docking display unit for physically engaging a portable computing unit and a combination of the same. The display unit may include or exclude a central processing unit and includes a housing with a hinged first and second region. The first region includes a display screen and the second region includes a keyboard. A recessed docking port is provided in the second region and is configured to receive the portable device therein. At least one connector is provided in the docking port to operationally link a central processor in the portable device with the display screen and keyboard. A touchscreen on the portable device provides a user interface for controlling the combined display unit and portable device. The portable device preferably is a smartphone.

A display unit having at least one docking port for receiving and retaining a complementary hands-free headset therein. The docking port comprises a recessed slot formed in the display unit housing. The headset preferably is frictionally retained within the docking port. The docking port is provided with a power jack connector that matingly engages a complementary power jack on the headset when docked, thereby recharging the rechargeable power supply in the headset.

The present invention relates in general to portable processor based devices that provide computing, communication or entertainment functionality. More particularly, the present invention pertains to portable processor based devices operable while being held in its user's hand and providing communications, organizer and/or entertainment functions, such as cellular telephones, palm-sized organizers, and MP3 players, and to portable processor based devices providing general computing capabilities, such as laptop or handheld personal computers (PCs). More specifically, the present invention relates to systems that detachably mate a plurality of portable processor based devices to provide their combined functionality in an integrated structure.
