A system and method of conditioning air within a multi-zone system using a controller in communication with at least one sensor located within at least one of a plurality of zones, the method comprising the steps of: operating the at least one sensor to measure at least one environmental condition within at least one of the plurality of zones, identifying which, if any, of the plurality of zones is occupied, determining whether a demand condition exists within at least one occupied zone, calculating the difference between an actual environmental condition and a desired environmental condition within the plurality of zones to create a zone demand value if a demand condition exists in two or more occupied zones, and determining whether a cumulative zone demand value is equal to a zone balance point value.

Multi-zone indoor climate control and a method of using the same

A method of operating a heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) system includes determining a first heating or cooling demand for a first zone of a space and determining a second heating or cooling demand for a second zone of the space. The method determines that the first demand requires operation of the HVAC system in a first mode, and that the second demand requires operation of the HVAC system in a second mode opposite the first mode, and a simultaneous heat/cool algorithm is operated to alternatingly operate the HVAC system in the first mode to condition the first zone and the second mode to condition the second zone.

Systems and methods involving heating and cooling system control

HVAC systems and methods are shown which use volumetric air flow and static pressure calculations that correct for different air densities encountered at different altitudes. With respect to the volumetric airflow rate, the systems and methods disclosed herein adjust the calculation of airflow rate to better match the BTU content of de-rated natural gas used at higher elevations, and therefore they are usable in HVAC systems that combust natural gas. The adjusted static pressure calculations may be used in any type of HVAC system.

Altitude adjustment for heating, ventilating and air conditioning systems

An air conditioning system that comprises a controller that is in electrical communication with a compressor, a condenser fan, a temperature sensor that measures the temperature of the ambient air, a temperature sensor that measures the temperature of a condenser coil of the air conditioning system, and a low pressure switch (LPS) that measure the pressure of a refrigerant disposed within the air conditioning system. An algorithm resident on the controller controls the controller to enter a low ambient cooling mode when the temperature of the ambient air is less than a set temperature. The algorithm further controls the controller so that a minimum and/or maximum cycling frequency is imposed on the condenser fan. The algorithm further controls the controller so that the controller does not respond to an LPS trip during the early part of a cooling cycle under low outdoor temperature conditions, which might not accurately indicate a system fault, but still shuts down the compressor in response to an LPS trip under conditions that truly indicate a system fault.

Air conditioning system for low ambient cooling

A method and control is provided wherein the sensors in a plurality of zones are properly associated with the dampers associated for each of the zones after installation. A technician goes to each zone and sends a signal from the sensor, and the control then makes a change at the associated damper. The technician can then ensure the two are properly associated within the control.
