Aspects of the subject disclosure relate to various features of a battery subassembly, such as a battery module. The battery subassembly may be implemented in an electric vehicle or in a building. In one or more implementations, the battery subassembly may include a battery cell having a peripheral rim having a first width and forming a terminal for the battery cell; and at least one weld configured to couple the peripheral rim to a connector, in which the at least one weld has a second width that is larger than the first width.

A cell of an energy storage device with at least one electrode that is tables, and methods of forming thereof, are described. The cell includes a first substrate having a first coating disposed thereon, wherein a second portion of the first substrate at a proximal end along the width of the first substrate comprises a conductive material. An inner separator is disposed over the first substrate. A second substrate is disposed over the inner separator. The second substrate has a second coating disposed thereon. The first substrate, the inner separator, and the second substrate in a successive manner, the first substrate, the inner separator, and the second substrate are rolled about a central axis.

Cell with a tabless electrode

Aspects of the disclosure relate to an insulator configured to attach to and extend along a length of a current collector of a battery cell. The insulator may include a body configured to prevent contact between the current collector and a housing of the battery cell. The insulator may include an attachment feature at a first end of the body. The attachment feature may be configured to attach the body to a first end of the current collector. The insulator may include a protrusion at a second end of the body. The protrusion may be configured to prevent rotation of the body with respect to the current collector.

A system can include a first platen configured to rotate in a first direction and a second platen configured to rotate in a second direction. The first platen can include a first surface configured to support a first layer and contact a first portion of a second layer. The second platen including a second surface that mates with the first surface of the first platen to stack the first layer and the first portion of the second layer.

A system to manufacture an electrode layer stack is disclosed. The system can include a conveyor device to move a carrier. The system can include a first placing device to place a first electrode layer on the carrier. The system can include a first alignment device to obtain first positional information associated with the first electrode layer. The system can include a second placing device to place a second electrode layer on the first electrode layer based on the first positional information to form the electrode layer stack. The electrode layer stack can include a separator layer between the first electrode layer and the second electrode layer.

Systems and methods of battery manufacturing

Described herein are medical devices and medical implements with high lubricity to flesh (or biological fluid) and/or inhibited nucleation on its surface. The device has a surface comprising an impregnating liquid and a plurality of micro-scale and/or nano-scale solid features spaced sufficiently close to stably contain the impregnating liquid therebetween. The impregnating liquid fills spaces between said solid features, the surface stably contains the impregnating liquid between the solid features, and the impregnating liquid is substantially held in place between the plurality of solid features regardless of orientation of the surface.

Medical devices and implements with liquid-impregnated surfaces

The invention is directed to an article with a liquid-impregnated surface, the surface having a matrix of features thereupon, spaced sufficiently close to stably contain a liquid therebetween or therewithin, and preferable also a thin film thereupon. The surface provides the article with advantageous non-wetting properties. Compared to previous non-wetting surfaces, which include a gas (e.g., air) entrained within surface textures, these liquid-impregnated surfaces are resistant to impalement and frost formation, and are therefore more robust.

Liquid-impregnated surfaces, methods of making, and devices incorporating the same

A cell of an energy storage device with at least one electrode that is tabless, and methods of forming thereof, are described. The cell includes a first substrate having a first coating disposed thereon, wherein a second portion of the first substrate at a proximal end along the width of the first substrate comprises a conductive material. An inner separator is disposed over the first substrate. A second substrate is disposed over the inner separator. The second substrate has a second coating disposed thereon. The first substrate, the inner separator, and the second substrate in a successive manner, the first substrate, the inner separator, and the second substrate are rolled about a central axis.

In certain embodiments, the invention is directed to apparatus comprising a liquid-impregnated surface, said surface comprising an impregnating liquid and a matrix of solid features spaced sufficiently close to stably contain the impregnating liquid therebetween or therewithin, and methods thereof. In some embodiments, one or both of the following holds: (i) 0&#x3c;&#x3d5;&#x2264;0.25, where &#x3d5; is a representative fraction of the projected surface area of the liquid-impregnated surface corresponding to non-submerged solid at equilibrium; and (ii) S&#x3c;0, where Sis spreading coefficient, defined as &#x3b3;&#x2212;&#x3b3;&#x2212;&#x3b3;, where &#x3b3; is the interfacial tension between the two phases designated by subscripts w, a, and o, where w is water, a is air, and o is the impregnating liquid.

Apparatus and methods employing liquid-impregnated surfaces

A system includes multiple devices configured to emit and detect germicidal radiation. Each of the multiple devices operates in emitting mode when connected to a drive source in a forward bias configuration and operates in detecting mode when disconnected from the drive source or when connected to the drive source in a reverse bias configuration. Cycling circuitry generates a sequence of control signals that control switching circuitry to change the connections of the devices to the drive source in a cycle in which one or more of the multiple devices are switched to detecting mode and senses radiation emitted by one or more of the multiple devices simultaneously operating in emitting mode. Each device operating in detecting mode generates a signal in response to the sensed radiation. Detection circuitry detects signals of the devices operating in detecting mode and generates a detection output in response to the detected signals.

Disinfecting system with performance monitoring

In certain embodiments, the invention relates to an article having a liquid-impregnated surface. The surface includes a matrix of solid features (e.g., non-toxic and/or edible features) spaced sufficiently close to stably contain a liquid therebetween or therewithin, wherein the liquid is non-toxic and/or edible. The article may contain, for example, a food or other consumer product, such as ketchup, mustard, or mayonnaise.

Self-lubricating surfaces for food packaging and food processing equipment

A UV treatment cartridge having an exterior housing and a UV treatment module located inside of the exterior housing. The UV treatment module having a UVLED array for UV treatment of a fluid passing through the UV treatment module. An internal annular space between the exterior sidewall and the module sidewall forms an entry flow path to the UV treatment module thereby substantially balancing fluid pressure acting on the inside of the module sidewall and acting on the outside of the module sidewall.

Water purification cartridge

A falling film of liquid desiccant in direct contact with a gas stream is formed, which allows water vapor transfer between a gas stream (air) and the desiccant, enabling dehumidification and/or humidification of air. Thin films are created in one way by a wettable layer that is in contact with a support structure and in another way directly on the support structure. The devices can be installed on an absorber (conditioner) side or a desorber (regenerator) side or both of air conditioning systems; for example, liquid desiccant air conditioning (LDAC) applications.
