The organic chelated zinc coating can contain 0.02 wt. % to 0.5 wt. % or more, based on the total weight of the coated fertilizer, of zinc from the organic chelated zinc. The coating can optionally contain or exclude a binder. An oil based coating can be at least partially positioned between the surface of the fertilizer core and the organic chelated zinc coating.
