A preamble of physical layer (PHY) data unit includes a first legacy portion and a first non-legacy portion that follows the first legacy portion. The first non-legacy portion includes i) a first orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) symbol that immediately follows the first legacy portion and that is modulated using binary phase shift keying (BPSK), and ii) a second OFDM symbol that immediately follows the first OFDM symbol and that is modulated using BPSK modulation rotated by 90 degrees (Q-BPSK). The modulation of the first and second OFDM symbols indicates to a receiver device that conforms to a first communication protocol that the data unit conforms to the first communication protocol. The first OFDM symbol being modulated using BPSK modulation causes a receiver device that conforms to a second communication protocol to determine that the PHY data unit conforms to a third communication protocol.

Physical layer frame format for WLAN

A first field of a preamble includes a plurality of indications of respective numbers of spatial or space-time streams for respective receivers to enable each receiver among the multiple receivers to determine a respective set of one or more training sequences, in a plurality of training sequences, that corresponds to the receiver. A second field of the preamble includes respective modulation and coding scheme information for the respective receivers. The preamble is generated such that i) the first field is transmitted prior to the plurality of training sequences, and ii) the second field of the preamble is transmitted after the plurality of training sequences are transmitted. Generating and processing multi-user data units for WLAN

A first portion of a physical layer (PHY) preamble of a PHY data unit is generated for transmission via a communication channel that comprises a plurality of sub-channels. A first portion of the PHY preamble is generated to include a legacy portion and a plurality of first non-legacy signal fields spanning the respective sub-channels. A second portion of a PHY preamble that immediately follows the first portion of the PHY preamble of the PHY data unit is generated to include: a non-legacy short training field spanning all sub-channels in the plurality of sub-channels, a plurality of non-legacy long training fields immediately following the non-legacy short training field, each non-legacy training field spanning all sub-channels in the plurality of sub-channels, and a second non-legacy signal field immediately following the plurality of non-legacy long training fields, the second-legacy signal field spanning all sub-channels in the plurality of sub-channels.

A preamble of a physical layer (PHY) data unit that conforms to a first communication protocol is generated. The preamble includes a legacy field that is formatted according to a second communication protocol, and a signal field having a first orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) symbol and a second OFDM symbol. The first OFDM symbol (i) immediately follows the legacy field and (ii) is modulated using binary phase shift keying (BPSK) modulation, whereas a third communication protocol specifies that an OFDM symbol, defined by the third communication protocol, that immediately follows the legacy field is modulated using BPSK modulation rotated by 90 degrees (Q-BPSK). The second OFDM symbol (i) immediately follows the first OFDM symbol and (ii) is modulated using Q-BPSK to indicate to a receiver device that conforms to the first communication protocol that the data unit conforms to the first communication protocol.

A communication device generates a physical layer (PHY) data unit that includes a PHY preamble and one or more PHY midambles. The communication generates the PHY preamble of the PHY data unit to include i) a signal field having a subfield that indicates that the PHY data unit includes one or more PHY midambles, ii) a short training field (STF) for automatic gain control (AGC) training and synchronization at a receiver, and iii) one or more long training fields (LTFs) for determining a channel estimate at the receiver. The communication generates a data payload of the PHY data unit having i) a set of orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) symbols, and ii) one or more PHY midambles. Each of the one or more PHY midambles includes one or more LTFs for determining an updated channel estimate. The communication device transmits the PHY data unit via a wireless communication channel.

Midamble for WLAN PHY packets

In a method for generating a data unit conforming to a first communication protocol, a first field and a second field to be included in a preamble of the data unit are generated. The first field includes a first set of one or more information bits that indicate a duration of the data unit and is formatted such that the first field allows a receiver device that conforms to a second communication protocol to determine the duration of the data unit. The second field includes a second set of one or more information bits that indicate to a receiver device that conforms to the first communication protocol that the data unit conforms to the first communication protocol. The first field and the second field are modulated using a modulation scheme specified for a field corresponding to the first field and the second field, respectively, by the second communication protocol.

First data units associated with one or more power-constrained sensor devices are transmitted in a wireless network, and second data units associated with offload of cellular telephone data are transmitted in the wireless network. Priority is given to transmission of the first data units over transmission of the second data units with regard to access to a wireless medium. Transmissions in the wireless network are permitted at a plurality of different channel bandwidths including a minimum channel bandwidth, and transmissions in the wireless network corresponding to offload of cellular telephone data are permitted only using a channel bandwidth, among the plurality of different channel bandwidths, that is greater than the minimum channel bandwidth.

Prioritizing sensor data and cellular offload data in a wireless network

A first legacy portion of a physical layer (PHY) preamble is generated, wherein the first legacy portion of the PHY preamble is generated to include a signal field having PHY parameters arranged in subfields according to a first legacy communication protocol. Method and apparatus for generating a PHY data unit

An unencrypted media access control layer (MAC) protocol data unit (MPDU) having a header is received at a wireless network interface device. The header includes a sequence number. The wireless network interface device uses the sequence number to encrypt data in the unencrypted MPDU to generate an encrypted MPDU, and transmits the encrypted MPDU.

Method and apparatus for secure communications in networks

Channel data for a plurality of OFDM tones for one or more spatial or space-time streams are determined. A plurality of angle values associated with the one or more spatial or space-time streams and the one or more OFDM tones of the plurality of OFDM tones are determined. For each of the one or more spatial or space time streams, a per-tone signal to noise ratio (PT-SNR) associated with one or more OFDM tone of the plurality of OFDM tones is determined, and an average signal to noise ratio (avg-SNR) is determined by averaging signal to noise ratio (SNR) values corresponding to one or more OFDM tones of the plurality of OFDM tones. A feedback report is generated to include at least i) the plurality of angle values, ii) the PT-SNRs, and iii) the avg-SNR.

Compressed feedback format for WLAN

A preamble, a first portion of a data payload, a midamble, and a second portion of the data payload of a single data unit are generated. The midamble is to be transmitted subsequent to transmission of the first portion of the data payload and prior to transmission of the second portion of the data payload. The midamble includes an indication of at least one characteristic of the data payload such as an indication of a size of the second portion of the data payload, or whether or not the data payload includes one or more other portions in addition to the first and second portions. A network interface of a communication device is configured to generate the preamble, the first and second portions of the data payload, and the midamble.

Midamble for WLAN PHY frames

The present disclosure includes systems and techniques relating to wireless devices. A described technique includes determining wireless resource allocations (e.g., spatial wireless channel allocations, downlink slot assignments, uplink slot assignments, and frequency sub-band assignments that correspond respectively to frequency sub-bands of a frequency band) in a time domain, a spatial wireless channel domain, and a frequency domain to coordinate communications with wireless devices. The technique further includes generating and transmitting information in one or more frames that directs wireless communications based on the wireless resource allocations. The information can be configured to cause the devices to receive respective data in downlink slots via spatial wireless channels in accordance with the wireless resource allocations, and to cause the devices to transmit, concurrently, respective acknowledgement indications, in response to the respective data, in uplink slots in accordance with the wireless resource allocations. The acknowledgement indications can be assigned to different frequency sub-bands.
