A method is provided for managing performance of a wireless network by a server. The method includes generating performance data of the wireless network by having a plurality of network elements communicate with each other to determine signal attenuation among each pair of the plurality of network elements. The method also includes determining interference within the wireless network interference based on generated performance data, and generating an interference matrix identifying the interference in the wireless network. The method further includes generating an adjacency matrix, based on the interference matrix, identifying locations having unacceptable levels of interference in the wireless network, and allocating channel frequencies and corresponding transmission powers in the wireless network based on the adjacency matrix, in order to maximize an aggregate throughput of the wireless network.

Adaptive rate and reach optimization for wireless access networks

A method controls a wireless network, which includes a controller and a plurality of network elements. The method includes determining interference in the wireless network using radio-link measurements, generating an interference matrix identifying the interference in the wireless network, and generating an adjacency matrix based on the interference matrix identifying locations having unacceptable levels of interference in the wireless network. The method also includes allocating channels and corresponding transmission powers in the wireless network to reduce the unacceptable levels of interference. The method is performed at predetermined fixed time intervals and when a new network element is added to the wireless network.

A system and method () are disclosed for managing quality of service for multimedia applications. A system that incorporates teachings of the present disclosure may include, for example, a network management system (NMS) () having a controller () that manages operations of a Digital Subscriber Line Access Multiplexer (DSLAM) () interfacing to a digital subscriber line (DSL) modem () over a digital subscriber line. The controller can be programmed to detect () a signal quality violation in the digital subscriber line according to a quality policy associated with a content source, cause () the DSLAM to interleave content supplied thereto by the content source; and cause () the DSLAM to allocate to the content supplied by the content source a first portion of a data service bandwidth assigned to the digital subscriber line. Method and apparatus for managing quality of service for multimedia applications

A method controls a wireless local area network, which includes a centralized performance management controller and a plurality of network elements. The method includes determining interference between each network element and every other network element of the plurality of network elements, and populating an interference matrix identifying the interference between each combination of two network elements of the plurality of network elements. The method also includes generating an adjacency matrix based on the interference matrix indicating each combination of the two network elements of the plurality of network elements that has an unacceptable level of interference. The method further includes improving overall performance of the wireless local area network by reducing the unacceptable levels of interference indicated by the adjacency matrix.

A broadband residential gateway (BRG) management system () has a communications interface () coupled to one or more BRGsand one or more content service providers (CSPs)(), a memory (), and a processor (). The processor can be programmed to establish () a content profile for each of the BRGs according to one or more attributes of the BRGs and the CSPs, receive () a content access request from one or more BRGs, and supply () each BRG access to selectable content from one or more of the CSPs according to the content profile.

Method and apparatus for managing broadband residential gateways

A wireless local area network (WLAN) control system includes network elements (such as access points and clients) and a centralized dynamic performance management system. The network elements measure signal attenuation in communications with other WLAN network elements. The dynamic performance management system receives signal attenuation data from the network elements, and determines a frequency and/or transmission power level for each of the network elements to reduce interference with the other WLAN network elements. The dynamic performance management system also transmits instructions to each network element to control the frequency and/or transmission power level of the network elements.
