A system and method for search, including steps of: receiving one or more search terms; searching an index for the one or more search terms to generate search results; retrieving the search results, wherein some of the search results include web pages associated with application programs; preparing a search results page for presentation to the user, wherein said search results page comprises at least a partial listing of the search results; presenting a search tool pod located on a portion of the search results page without obscuring the search results, wherein said search tool pod includes a list of application modules for executing the application programs associated with the search results that are presented; receiving a selection of a first application module; and presenting the first application module for user interaction in an area of the search results page that is smaller than the entire search results page.

Quick applications for search

A method and apparatus for computing efficiency score of a page is provided and using the efficiency score to optimize page design. Eye tracking study is performed on a group of subjects where eye fixation data, gaze plot data, and qualitative information data are collected. Fixation information data for page is aggregated over the subjects in the study. The fixation information data is divided into a grid. Number of fixations is computed for every grid element. Seen and noticed thresholds are established for every grid element. Seen and noticed area of a page is computed by counting number of grid elements falling into either threshold. Ratio of area noticed over area seen is computed to yield efficiency score. Page fixation data are compared for alternate page designs. Areas of large difference are correlated with gaze plots and qualitative data to identify distinguishing features.

Calculating cognitive efficiency score for navigational interfaces based on eye tracking data

A tool which allows users to define one or more event/action pairs, thereby speeding and customizing the user's interaction with web documents. Such event/action pairs may include keyboard shortcuts and associated actions, and the user can add, edit, or delete some or all such keyboard shortcuts through a convenient interface. The event/action pairs may also be associated with an account provided by a service provider, whereby the user can cause any browser that can access the service provider to load the event/action pairs, which in turn allows the user to work efficiently regardless of the computing device and/or browser available to the user.

Task-based tool for speeding and customizing interactions with web documents

Systems, methods and computer program products are disclosed for assisting search request by presenting suggestion of one or more vertical segments to produce a more focused result. A vertical segment may be selected by the user, the selected vertical segment being associated with one or more query terms and a search is performed on an index associated with the vertical segment. A search engine generates a search result and returns a list of search result pages for presentation to a user.
