The present invention relates to adhesives that are suitable for use in a broad variety of bonding applications. In particular, the present invention relates to adhesives that are suitable for use in polymer-to-metal, for example elastomer-to-metal, such as rubber-to-metal bonding applications, wherein the adhesives comprise at least one halogenated polyolefin, at least one epoxysilane having at least one terminal alkoxy silane group, at least one bis-silane, and optionally at lease one organic solvent.

Adhesives suitable for use in bonding applications

Methods for bonding polymeric substrates to hydroxylated surfaces such as glass are disclosed. The polymeric substrates may be elastomeric substrates such as a natural or synthetic rubber. The method may comprise applying a compound comprising at least one alkoxy silane moiety and at least one moiety selected from a nitrosoaromatic or a nitrosoaromatic precursor to one of the substrates. The nitrosoaromatic moiety may be a nitrosobenzene. The nitrosoaromatic precursor may be a nitrosobenzene precursor, such as at least one of a quinone dioxime or a quinone oxime. Novel primers and compounds suitable for use in the bonding process are also disclosed.

Bonding compositions

Compositions having a compound comprising at least one alkoxy silane moiety, and at least one moiety selected from a nitrosoaromatic or a nitrosoaromatic precursor and combinations thereof; and an aqueous or water containing carrier medium are provided for use in polymer bonding. The water may allow for substantial hydrolysis of the compound. Suitable polymers may have diene or allylic functionality within the polymer chain, for example an elastomer such as a natural or synthetic rubber. The polymers may be bonded to metals or substrates with hydroxylated surfaces such as glass. The nitrosobenzene precursor may be at least one of a quinone dioxime or a quinone oxime.

Compositions for polymer bonding

Aqueous bonding agents based on at least one phenolic resin, at least one aromatic dinitroso compound and a polyvinyl alcohol are suitable as a one-coat aqueous rubber-metal bonding agent to achieve permanent rubber-metal bonds. These bonding agents can be substantially free from organic solvents and halogen compounds, and allow one-coat application without an additional, previous application of a primer.

Aqueous one-coat rubber-metal bonding agents

Disclosed are aqueous polyurethane compositions which contain at least one aqueous polyurethane dispersion, at least one compound blocked with isocyanate groups, at least one means for improving sliding behaviour, at least one surface-active and flow-control agent as well as optionally conventional bonding agents, dyes and/or pigments. Said aqueous polyurethane dispersions are useful for coating elastomers for obtaining a surface that has a very low coefficient of friction. Elastomer components that are coated according to the invention are useful for sealing window channels, for moveable glass components and/or as profiled joints in vehicle manufacturing, preferably in automobile manufacturing.

The invention relates to one- or two-component polyurethane lacquers for coating elastomers containing polyurethane prepolymers with an average of two or more isocyanate groups per molecule which have been prepared by mixing alcohols having a functionality of two or higher with an excess of isocyanate compounds having a functionality of two or higher and solvents, characterized in that a compound containing iron oxide is added in an extremely large quantity to improve surface slip, and to the production and use of such one- or two-component polyurethane lacquers.
