Holder for metal-cutting tool inserts

A metal removing tool, in particular lancing insert, has a holder (10) with a slot-shaped recess (11) and a cutting insert (12) detachably held therein under a prestress by means of an elastically expandable clamping arm (101) designed as one side of the recess (11). The opposite cooperating insertion and bearing surfaces of the cutting insert (12) and slot-shaped recess (11) have a V-shaped cross-section. At its insertion and bearing surface facing the clamping arm (101), the cutting insert has a plurality of substantially flat partial surfaces (124, 125, 126) arranged behind each other in the insertion direction. Two surfaces enclose an obtuse angle .alpha. and form a salient point at the ridge (127), so that the clamping arm (101) engages the cutting insert (12) between the ridge (127) and the cutting edge (121) in the clamping state. In particular to prevent the cutting insert from being drawn out of its seat, the partial surface (124) engaged by the clamping arm (101) is inclined so as to form a negative angle .beta. with respect to the bearing surface (128) or the plane defined by the bearing lines of the cutting insert.

A machine tool turret having a plurality of tool holders with tension rod-actuated mechanisms for locking the tool head can be rotated to bring a selected tool holder into engagement with jaws of a release unit, applying to the tension rod a force sufficient to compress the disk spring stack thereof and release the tool and to the holder a counterforce which is equal and opposite in direction and prevents the release unit from stressing the bearings of the turret or any spindle bearings which may make the tool holder rotatable.

Method of and assembly for releasably connecting a tool head to a tool

A tool head is clamped in a tool holder by rotating a radial or axial clamping shaft which has spiral camming surfaces urging clamping elements outwardly to engage ramps on the pin of the tool head which is received in a socket of the tool holder. The spiral cam can be a second or higher order mathematical curve and the shaft can carry an ejection cam as well.

Clamping device for connecting a tool head to a tool holder of a machine

A machine spindle is formed with an axially centered forwardly flared large-diameter seat, provided in the seat with at least two axially and radially displaceable spindle jaws, having an axially displaceable actuating rod axially coupled with the jaws, and formed with cam formations engageable with the jaws to move same together on axial rearward displacement. A transfer body or a tool is normally also centered on the axis and formed with an axially centered rearwardly tapered small-diameter stem substantially smaller than the seat. An adapter comprises an adapter body normally centered on the axis and formed with a forwardly open small-diameter adapter seat complementary with the tool stem, a rearwardly projecting adapter stem snugly receivable in the large-diameter seat of the spindle, a flange flatly engageable with the front end of the spindle when the stem is in the spindle seat, and at least one rearwardly projecting tongue having a radially deflectable rear end engageable between a respective one of the jaws and the spindle when the stem is in the spindle seat to press the one jaw radially inward. A connector rod is axially limitedly displaceable in the adapter body between a front position and a rear position and has a rear end formed as a head engageable by the jaws. At least one member engageable between the rod and the tool stem to lock the tool in the adapter seat when the connector rod is in the rear position.

Adapter for machine-tool spindle

A tool holder system for stationary or rotatable tool holders in machine tools with manual or automatic tool change, has a tool holder provided with a mechanism for locking the tool head onto clamping surfaces, and integrated liquid coolant supply and a compressed air supply to the clamping surfaces. At the clamping end of the tool holder, a checkvalve is provided in the air supply passage to block incursion of liquid coolant even at high pressures of the latter and thus prevent corrosion and damage which may result from such corrosion.

Tool-mounting assembly

A tool coupling for connecting a tool head to a tool holder to secure the tool head against rotation and provide axial prestress. The tool head, which serves as a cutting tool, includes a shank having at least a portion which is conically configured, a threaded bore, and an annular contact collar. The tool holder includes a sleeve-shaped receiving bore corresponding to the shank, at least a portion of the receiving bore being conically configured, a tightening screw, and an annular contact face. An additional bore in the shank of the tool head ensures a prestress between the shank and the tool carrier including the receiving bore, and such prestress is not entirely relieved even if lateral forces act on the tool head. This keeps the tool head from vibrating in the receiving bore.

Tool coupling

A tool-and-tool holder assembly includes a tool having a tool shank; a tool holder having a receiving bore arranged for accommodating a stub of the tool shank; a clamping member disposed in the stub and being movable therein, generally perpendicularly to the shank; and two clamping screws supported in the tool holder and cooperating with the clamping member for axially tightening the shank against the tool holder. Each clamping screw has a first conical face and the clamping member has recesses each bounded by a second conical face. Upon tightening the clamping screws, the respective first and second conical faces are pressed against one another for generating an axial force component urging the shank into the receiving bore. At least one of the clamping screws has a third conical face, and the clamping member has a portion projecting over one of the recesses and having a fourth conical face. Upon unscrewing the clamping screw which has the third conical face, the third and fourth conical faces are pressed to one another for gererating a second axial force component urging the shank in a direction out of the receiving bore of the tool holder.

A cutting bit (1) has a bottom side (2), flanks (3) that are inclined at a positive clearance angle (.alpha.) with respect to the bottom side (2), and a top side (7). The top side (7) has cutting edges (5 and 5') which are inclined with respect to one another at an angle of inclination (.lambda.). The cutting bit is made by sintering a blank which is formed using a pressing tool (10). The pressing tool includes a mold member (11), an upper die (12), and a lower die (13). The upper die (12) has a pressure face (20) which corresponds precisely, except for an allowance for the shrinkage ratio of the sinter material, to the actual surface of the upper side of the cutting bit (1). When the upper die (12) is fully inserted into the mold (11), a free space (31) exists between the upper die (12) and the mold member (11), the free space being disposed above the delimiting line (21) of pressure face (20) of the upper die (12).
