In one aspect, a method used to determine services in a network is provided. For a plurality of devices, information pertaining to a location of the respective device is stored in a location information item. A location information item providing a location of a user is generated. At least one of the plurality of devices to be used by the user based on the generated location information item and to the stored location information items is automatically selecting; a status report is transmitted to a device used by the user, with the user being offered the use a service via the status report, the offered service effected by the selected device.

Method and unit used to determine useable services

A communication network containing components which use and provide services in the communication network, a plurality of components capable of providing the identical service. In one embodiment, one component determines the services provided by other components in the communication network. If the same services are provided by two components, information relating to the output state of the software controlling the services is compared by one of the components. A software update is initialized if the output states differ. If a defined service is activated in a second component by means of a first component, but the service cannot be provided by means of the software of the second component although the second component has the necessary hardware requirements therefore, said service is made available by downloading or updating the software of the second component.

Disclosed is a method for transmitting on-demand software and/or data from a server () to a terminal () in a packet network (). According to said method, a bandwidth test is performed as a prerequisite for transmission, said test verifying whether the currently available bandwidth is sufficient for transmitting the requested software or data. The server () does not transmit the requested software or the requested data if the result of the bandwidth test is negative.

The invention relates to a method for transmitting messages in a network via data terminals connected thereto. This method comprises the following steps: sending a message to be relayed from a sender data terminal to an assigned first mail processing device assigning a unique identifier to the message which indicates that a message to be relayed is in the sender data terminal or in the first mail processing device; evaluating the identifier by the first mail processing device based on data present therein concerning the entry of a message at an address data terminal from the past, and in response to the evaluation result, transmitting in a triggered or blocked manner the message or parts thereof to the address data terminal. The invention also relates to a data terminal and network that carry out the inventive method using mail processing devices.

Method for transmitting messages in a network

In order to establish a communication connection between two subscribers in a direct communication network, signaling information containing subscriber address information is exchanged between subscribers participating in the communication connection. The communication connection is directly established between the subscribers participating in the communication connection on the basis of the subscriber address information. According to the invention, the following steps are carried out: first, subscriber address information of at least one target subscriber required for establishing a paired communication connection between the subscribers is stored in a first subscriber; the stored subscriber address information of the target subscriber is then transmitted to a calling subscriber by the first subscriber; and the calling subscriber uses said subscriber address information in order to establish the communication connection between the calling subscriber and the target subscriber.

For alternate operation of a terminal (EG) at at least two communication nodes (GK, GK), the terminal (EG) is first registered with a first of the communication nodes (GK). In this case, registration is followed by there being a logical connection between the terminal (EG) and the first communication node (GK). The obtainability of the first communication node (GK) is monitored, and in the event of the first communication node (GK) being unobtainable a status information item relating to the unobtainability is produced, and the status information item is taken as a basis for setting up a logical connection between the terminal (EG) and the second communication node (GK). The terminal (EG) is then automatically operated at the second communication node (GK).

Method and communication arrangement for alternately operating a terminal at at least two communication nodes

A method for establishing a communication connection between two subscribers of a plurality of subscribers in a direct communication network is provided. Subscriber address information required for establishing paired communication connections between the subscribers is stored in the plurality of subscribers in a distributed manner; a searching subscriber sends a broadcast request message aimed at the establishment of at least one communication connection between a calling subscriber and at least one sought subscriber; each subscriber receiving the broadcast request message sends a response message containing subscriber address information required for the at least one communication connection, provided that the emission of a response message is associated therewith according to the respective functionality thereof; and said subscriber address information is then used to establish the communication connection between the calling subscriber and the at least one sought subscriber.

In a communications network, one component at a time can be monitored by at least one other component. To this end, a monitoring task is issued by a monitoring component, whereby this monitoring task contains the address of said component. Each component, which can be monitored and which monitors, is provided with communications means for carrying out direct data exchange. The monitoring component transmits the monitoring task directly to the component, which is to be monitored and which comprises both storage means for storing the addresses contained in the monitoring tasks as well as monitoring means for monitoring the state. A communications means is used to directly transmit a state to be monitored to the monitoring component at least in the event of a state change.

Arrangement for state monitoring for components in a packet switched communication network

In order to operate a communication terminal for packet-oriented data transmission, at least one piece of status information is stored, for a communication terminal, in a memory unit associated with the communication terminal. Said status information is provided with a digital signature that is calculated from the status information by means of a private key for an asymmetrical encoding method associated with a first control unit associated with the communication terminal, for the resolution and/or conversion of network addresses. If the first control unit fails, a request is transmitted comprising the status information and the digital signature to associate the communication terminal with at least one second control unit, and the digital signature is checked. In the event of a positive check result, the communication terminal is associated with the second control unit.

Method and control program for operating a communication terminal for packet-oriented data transmission

In one aspect, a method is provided for providing resources provided in a first communication component to a second communication component, the components in a packet-switched communication networks. The resources being provided by software which runs on the communication components and which accesses the hardware of the communication components. A service examines the hardware of at least one of the communication components in order to determine whether a resource can be provided by a software on said communication component. If the result is positive, the resource-specific software is transmitted to the communication component and provides the resource to be used.
