In an apparatus of a communication network first packets of a data flow in a first direction are acquired, each having a first service chain identifier identifying a first chain of services which have been applied to the first packets in the first direction of the data flow. The first service chain identifier represents a classification result of classification functions used for selecting the first chain of services. Based on the first service chain identifier, a packet filter is calculated, which is associated with a second chain of services to be applied to second packets of the data flow in a second direction of the data flow when the second packets enter the communication network in the second direction.

For example, fifth generation communication systems may benefit from low latency service connection setup for 5G network terminal in new service areas. A method can include receiving an indication of preference for services from a 5G network terminal. Two subscribers A and B are each connected to a network, e.g. by means of a leased line or a dialup connection. Subscriber A sets up a telephone connection to subscriber B. In the course of the telephone connection, a data connection additionally needs to be set up. A service provided by the telephone network operator and an appropriate method taking place on the subscribers data terminal equipment automatically transfer the data network addresses of the subscribers involved in a connection and also the connection configuration of the telephone connection to the subscribers data terminal equipment. This means that a data network connection can automatically be set up for a telephone connection on request.

The invention relates to a communications system and a method for establishing a broadband connection, for example a multi-media connection between two or more users, by means of exchanges in a communications network, for example an ATM network. According to the invention, when the exchanges receive a request from a calling user to establish a broadband connection, said exchanges first establish a minimal connection between the users and once the minimal connection is in operation between the users, the requested broadband connection is established. The users of broadband network capacities, which have been reserved by the network at the request of the user, are billed during the call phase. Broadband connections of this type can receive a higher priority than the upgrade of minimal connections to complete connections. A voice connection comprising audio data constitutes for example a minimal connection. The broadband connection takes place for example between video telephones.

In current telecommunications services, it is usual for the service provider of the initiator (e.g. the caller or the A-side) of the communications connection to determine the price and charge the A-side accordingly. This fee charging and payment system is too rigid for modern communications services. The inventive method solves this problem.

The evaluation of the effectiveness of the rerouting is updated at each call per traffic relationship (originating/destination node pair), using an evaluation storing device. For distributing calls in a communication network, a central network authority that forwards calls from subscribers to servers for further servicing of the calls provides an optimally successful distribution, i.e. a low load-conditioned cleardown rate by the servers, even when it cannot directly register the workload of a server. In order to achieve this, the central network authority monitors the reason for the cleardown of a call by a server and excludes a server from the call distribution procedure for a specific time span when this server clears an allocated calldown due to lack of adequate capacity.
