The deliveries to the printing ink industry of pigment preparations in the form of flushed pastes increasingly take the form of containers. Given the required high pigment content of the pastes and the attendant high viscosity and thixotropy, there are very frequent problems with filling the containers and complaints concerning the emptying of the containers. There is a demand for a homogeneous, pumpable pigment paste having a long shelf life. According to the invention, this demand is met in the case of pigments based on arylpararosanillnesulfonic acids by the use of specific aids of the type of the condensation products of aliphatic amines or ammonium compounds with polyesters of hydroxy fatty acids as part of the flushing process of the pigment using the customary or slightly modified binder systems which for the same pigment contents bring about a distinctly lower viscosity and thixotropy. The printing properties are not adversely affected.

Pasty pigment preparations, preparation thereof and use thereof

The invention relates to readily dispersible pigment preparations having good tinctorial strength based on an arylpararosanilinesulfonic acid pigment of the formula ##STR1## in which R.sup.1, R.sup.2 and R.sup.3 independently of one another are hydrogen, chlorine or bromine or an alkyl or alkoxy group, each having 1 to 3 carbon atoms, and at least one liquid alcohol having a chain length of C.sub.8 to C.sub.20, preferably C.sub.10 -C.sub.15, which has been modified with 2 to 8 mol, preferably 3-6 mol, of propylene oxide and with 1-14 mol, preferably 3-10 mol, of ethylene oxide. The invention furthermore relates to a process for the preparation of these pigment preparations and their use, in particular in printing inks, copying papers or typewriter ribbons.

Pigment preparation, a process for its preparation and its use

The invention relates to readily storable flushed pastes of pigments of the arylparaosanilinesulfonic acid series, consisting essentially of (a) up to 50% by weight of the pigment, in a binder combination of (b) natural resin esters based on unmodified or modified natural resins with monohydric or polyhydric C.sub.1 -C.sub.20 -alcohols, and (c) long-oily alkyd resins having an oil content of 60% to 90% by weight dissolved in high-boiling mineral oil. These formulations are prepared from aqueous presscakes of pigment (a) by flushing in the presence of the solution of a mixture of at least one natural resin ester (b) and at least one alkyd resin (c) in mineral oil (d) with elimination of water. The novel pigment formulations are used for producing printing inks for letterpress and offset printing.

Pastelike pigment formulations and preparation and use thereof

Aryl-pararosaniline sulfonic acid pigments can be transformed into a pigment preparation having high tinctorial strength and being easily dispersible by dissolving them in aqueous alkali, adding a water-soluble synthetic resin (being a reaction product or mixture of (I) maleic anhydride addition product of an unsaturated fatty acid or fatty acid polyol ester, said addition product being partially esterified with a polyol, and (II) a low-molecular curable and partially etherified aminoplast and optionally an anionic or nonionic surfactant and precipitating the preparation with a mineral acid. These preparations are especially useful for pigmenting printing inks, carbon paper, duplicating papers and typewriter ribbons.
