An electrical, electronic, fiber-optic, hydraulic, or pneumatic component is mounted upon a rectangular support body having an upper surface containing at least one linear groove, wherein a first connector is mounted in protectively concealed relation adjacent a given vertical side wall of the groove beneath an overhanging portion of the support body that extends partially into the groove, and a second connector extends downwardly from the component into the groove when the component is seated on the top surface of the support body. When the component is mechanically or manually horizontally displaced laterally of the groove from its initial inserted position toward a connected position adjacent the given vertical wall, the second connector is brought into connection with the first connector. In the preferred embodiment, the first and second connectors are electrical devices connected with electrical or electronic circuits contained within the component.

Apparatus for mounting electrical and mechanical components on a support body

A connector arrangement for tapping off current from a plurality of insulated input conductors includes a rectangular base member having a horizontal planar upper surface provided with a plurality of parallel seats receiving the insulated conductors, a frame mounted on the base member for supporting a plurality of terminal blocks for vertical displacement over the seats, each terminal block including an insulation piercing contact extending downwardly therefrom, and an eccentric disk arrangement for displacing each terminal block relative to the frame member between an elevated position spaced above the associated conductor seat and a lowered position in which the contact penetrates the insulation layer and engages the conductor, thereby to transmit current to an output conductor via the insulation-piercing conductor, a bus bar, and a tap-off terminal.

Connector tap-off arrangement for continuous conductors

An electrical connector arrangement taps off electrical current from a plurality of coplanar parallel input insulated conductors and supplies the same to a plurality of output conductors, respectively. A rectangular base member is provided having a horizontal upper surface that supports a plurality of parallel coplanar longitudinally-extending input conductors, respectively. A pair of pivot members are connected with the ends of the base member for pivotal movement about transverse horizontal pivot axes, respectively. As the pivot members are pivoted from disengaged positions toward engaged positions parallel with and directly above the base member top surface, bifurcated insulation-piercing knives on the pivot members pierce the insulation layers of the insulated conductors and electrically engage the conductors. Junction blocks fastened to the pivot members include output contacts connected with the insulation piercing knives via bus bars, which output contacts are connected with the output conductors, respectively.

Connector arrangement including insulated conductor tap-off means

An electrical connector includes a metal housing having at least one side wall, and first and second end walls cooperating with the side wall to define an open-topped chamber, an inverted generally U-shaped resilient contact having first and second leg portions introduced into the chamber adjacent the first and second end walls, respectively, and a bridging portion adjacent the open top of the metal housing, the housing side wall having a bent portion for supporting the resilient contact bridging portion, the resilient contact first leg portion being connected against coplanar movement relative to the housing first end wall. The resilient contact second leg portion is biased outwardly from the first leg portion, thereby to bias a conductor introduced within the housing chamber toward engagement with a bus bar defined adjacent the housing second end wall. The housing may be formed of an electrically conductive metal, such as copper. The free extremity of the second contact leg may be bifurcated to improve the biasing of one or more conductors against the bus bar.

Electrical conductor connecting means

A connector assembly is operable to connect a conductor with a generally U-shaped ground rail having a pair of upwardly extending legs that terminate in outwardly directed flange portions, including a conductive plate having a body panel that extends transversely above the rail. At a first end, the body panel included a downwardly extending hook portion the extends in locking relation beneath the flange portion of the associated first rail; at its other end, a first plate support panel is connected with the bottom of the body pane for bending movement about a first generally horizontal fold lined to a support position generally normal to the body panel and in engagement with the upper surface of the flange portion of the other rail. The plate is connected with the other rail leg by an inverted generally U-shaped spring member having a base portion that extends parallel with the body panel above the first support panel, and a pair of leg portions having end extremities that extend beneath the associated edge of the first plate support panel and the adjacent rail flange portion, respectively.

Connector means for connecting a conductor to a ground rail

A resilient connector for maintaining an electrical conductor in side-by-side conductive engagement with a bus bar includes a generally loop- or O-shaped resilient contact body having a first end portion, an intermediate portion arranged generally normal to the intermediate portion, and a second end portion that is normally arranged at an acute angle relative to the contact intermediate portion, the contact first end portion containing a window opening having first and second opposed edges remote from and adjacent the intermediate portion, respectively, the second contact end portion being displaceable from a normal first position adjacent the first window edge toward a second position adjacent the second window edge, whereby when the second contact end is displaced to its second position and a conductor and a bus bar are introduced in side-by-side electrically conductive relation within the window, release of the second end portion causes the conductor and the bus bar to be clamped in tight electrical contact by the cooperation between the second contact end portion and by the first window edge. In order to prevent permanent distortion of the contact body, a stop member is mounted within the contact cavity for limiting movement of the second contact end beyond the second position. Consequently, the stop member permits the use of the contact arrangement in fixed pole applications where the bus bar and the compression spring are to be installed from above or below a housing within which the electrical components are contained.

A conductor connector assembly for connecting a ground conductor or the like to a U-shaped top hat rail, including a first sheet metal member (1) arranged for seated engagement transversely across the outwardly directed flange portions at the free ends of the legs of the top hat rail, a second sheet metal member (2) adjacent the first member and including at each end a hook portion (16) adapted to extend below the associated flange portion, and a screw device (3) for displacing the second member upwardly relative to the first member, thereby to clamp the rail flange portions between the first and second sheet metal members. A guide arrangement is provided for guiding the members for vertical movement relative to each other.

Conductor connector assembly

A conductor connection assembly includes a U-shaped receptacle into which one can insert from above a screw-clamping assembly comprising a screw, a nut threadably connected with the screw, and a wire protection part in the form of a barrel spring or collar connected with the screw. On the nut, there are provided lateral protrusions adapted to fit within corresponding recesses provided in the side walls of the U-shaped receptacle. The screw clamping mechanism and the U-shaped receptacle are locked into position since the collar includes in the upper area thereof lateral shoulder projections which abut against the side edges of the side walls of the U-shaped receptacle upon activation of the screw to displace the clamping mechanism downwardly into the receptacle.

Conductor connection assembly

An assembly for supporting an electrical terminal housing on a carrier rail is provided, including a pair of slide members connected with a guide portion of the housing for sliding movement between latched and released positions. The thickness of the guide is slightly greater than the thickness of the slide members to define a gap therebetween. Each of the slide members includes a lower hook portion engaging a leg of the carrier rail when the slide members are in the latched position to connect the terminal housing with the rail, and a spring is connected with the slide members for normally biasing the hook portions toward the latched position. A first abutment is connected with the housing and a second abutment is connected with the slide members, the second abutment being normally vertically offset from the first abutment by a distance corrsponding with the thickness of the gap. When the housing is lifted with respect to the slide members, the gap is closed and the first and second abutments are arranged opposite each other to prevent lateral movement of the slide members toward the released positions, thereby to prevent unintentional removal of the terminal housing from the carrier rail.

Support assembly for an electrical terminal housing

A component housing for electrical and electronic circuits and components includes a frame constituting respective narrow sides of the housing at least one of which has a plurality of openings having different configurations in conformity with various connecting techniques to be used. Two lateral covering plates are arrestingly connected to the frame. A contact protection housing portion of an electrically insulating material extends over at least a partial region of the one narrow side of the frame and bounds a receiving space at the region of the one narrow side of the frame, especially for contact protected accommodation of lug-shaped connectors which extend upwardly beyond the one narrow side of the component housing. The contact protection housing portion has apertures that give access to those of the openings which are provided in the region of the one narrow side of the frame and is held in position by the lateral covering plates.

Component housing for electrical and electronic circuits

A connector for clamping one or more electrical conductors has a shackle which cooperates with a screw serving to urge one end portion of a rail toward a bottom wall of the shackle. The bottom wall has a central portion flanked by two convergent lateral portions which guide one or more conductors against the internal surface of the central portion when the screw causes the end portion of the rail to approach the bottom wall. The underside of the end portion of the rail has a centrally located platform whose underside urges the conductor or conductors against the central portion of the bottom wall and which is assisted by two ridges disposed between pairs of recesses in the end portion of the rail. The lateral portions of the bottom wall have notches which receive portions of the platform, and the recesses receive portions of the corresponding lateral wall portions. The undersides of the ridges can constitute concave surfaces to further enhance the gathering, centering and clamping effect of the end portion of the rail when the screw is rotated in a direction to advance the end portion toward the inner side of the bottom wall.

Clamping connector for electrical conductors

Wire-stripping pliers have outer clamping jaws and inner longitudinally movable stripping jaws. The stripping jaws are retracted, and the movable blade of a wire cutter is moved, by a pulling member in response to closure of the pliers handles. This movement is produced by a driving arm which moves along a cam surface on an extension of the pivoted clamping jaw, thereby pushing back the pulling member. The cam surface has a first portion of shallow inclination to provide rapid movement of the stripping jaws at low force, followed by a surface portion of steep inclination providing for relatively high cutting forces as the wire cutting blades close.

Tool for stripping electrical conductors

Wire-stripping pliers include stripping jaws which close with and then move longitudinally relative to clamping jaws for stripping the insulation. A conductor end stop is mounted on a stripping jaw to define the stripped length and consists of an H-section member of which the web forms the stop abutment and the side limbs can flex in response to pressure on their upper ends for engaging and disengaging teeth on their lower ends from corresponding teeth on the sides of the stripping jaw.
