Compounds of the formula ##STR1## and of the formula ##STR2## in which X and X' are, for example, --S--CHR.sup.1, --NR.sup.2 R.sup.3, --S--R.sup.3, --NR.sup.2 R.sup.3 or --OR.sup.3, R.sup.1 is, for example, --H, alkyl, cycloalkyl or phenyl, R.sup.2 and R.sup.3 are, for example, --H, alkyl, cycloalkyl or phenyl, or R.sup.2 and R.sup.3 together form a 3- to 7-membered heterocyclic ring, and R is alkylene, and compositions containing at least one compound of the formulae I and/or II and at least one lubricant, one hydraulic fluid or one metal working fluid, the compounds of the formula I and/or II being used as extreme pressure and wear-reducing additives.

The compounds according to the invention correspond to the formula I ##STR1## in which R is a hydrocarbon radical, A is one of the groups --O.CO--, --O-- or ##STR2## (in which m is 0-30) and Q, depending on the definition of A, is a hydrocarbon radical, a P-containing radical, an N-heterocyclic group or a radical containing N-heterocyclic groups. The compounds according to the invention also include those which are formed by an addition reaction of an O,O-dialkyl dithiophosphate with an epoxidised soybean oil. The compounds according to the invention are very useful as lubricant additives.

The invention relates to alkanolamido-.beta.-carboxylic acid esters of the formula I ##STR1## A full definition of the above formula will be found in claim 1 of the specification. These compounds are useful stabilizers for chlorinated thermoplastics.

Imide containing stabilizers for chlorinated thermoplastics

Chlorine-containing thermoplastics, especially polyvinyl chloride, can be stabilized against thermal degradation by incorporating therein synergistic mixtures consisting of (a) a mercaptan of the formula R(CH.sub.2 SH).sub.2, wherein n is 2 to 4 and R represents a n-valent aromatic radical, and (b) an epoxidized plasticizer.

Mono- or bistetrazoles of the formula I ##STR1## wherein n is 1 or 2, R.sup.1 represents hydrogen or a monovalent hydrocarbon radical and R represents a monovalent or divalent hydrocarbon radical which can be interrupted by oxygen, NY, sulfur, SO.sub.2 and/or CO.sub.2 or substituted by OH or SH, and wherein Y represents hydrogen or a monovalent hydrocarbon radical. These compounds, especially when used in combination with epoxy plasticizers and/or metal salt stabilizers, are outstanding heat stabilizers for chlorine-containing thermoplastics, especially for PVC. Particular interest attaches to the combinations of tetrazoles with epoxy plasticizers, for example epoxidized soya bean oil, which constitute a metal-free stabilizer system.
