A piston of an internal combustion engine is disclosed. The piston includes a piston head with a piston bowl, a ring part and an annular cooling channel arranged between the ring part and the piston bowl. A closure element is provided to close the cooling channel in a direction away from the piston bowl. At least one guiding element is arranged in the cooling channel. The at least one guiding element provides a lug facing in a direction of an inner cooling channel wall and disposed at least partially circumferentially. The lug of the at least one guiding element is structured and arranged to direct cooling oil present in the cooling channel towards an upper region of the inner cooling channel wall relative to the closure element to facilitate cooling the upper region.

Piston of an internal combustion engine

A piston for an internal combustion engine may include at least one oil ring groove configured to receive an oil scraper ring. The at least one oil ring groove may have an upper groove flank, a lower groove flank, and a groove base. The at least one oil ring groove may be structured to be asymmetrical and deeper in a radial direction in a region of the lower groove flank. The piston may also include an oil outflow channel structured and arranged to fluidically communicate with an oil collecting chamber disposed in a spine of the oil scraper ring. A connecting point between at least one of (i) the at least one oil ring groove and the oil outflow channel, and (ii) the oil collecting chamber and the oil outflow channel may be disposed exclusively in the lower groove flank.

Piston for an internal combustion engine

A piston of an internal-combustion engine may include a piston head and a piston skirt, a cooling duct circulating in the piston head, a boss for receiving a piston pin, and a feed hopper for supplying cooling oil into the cooling duct. The feed hopper may be fastened to another component of the piston via a retaining lug by at least one of a material closure, a force closure, and a positive closure.

An oil supply element for supplying oil into a cooling channel of a piston in an internal combustion engine, may include a channel having a lateral opening with an oil discharge element and may be configured to direct a partial oil flow via the oil discharge element and the lateral opening to at least one of an underside of a piston crown, a hub, and a piston interior.

A piston of an internal combustion engine includes a piston head including a ring belt having a firing land and a plurality of ring grooves for receiving piston rings. A first ring groove of the plurality of ring grooves that is arranged directly adjacent to the firing land has a ring groove axis that runs coaxially to a piston axis of the piston. The first ring groove has an upper groove flank and a lower groove flank arranged away from the firing land relative to the upper groove flank. At least the lower groove flank of at least the first ring groove is inclined by an inclination angle with respect to an orthogonal plane relative to the piston axis, and the inclination angle of at least the lower groove flank varies in a circumferential direction of the piston axis.

A method for manufacturing a piston of an internal combustion engine from a piston upper part and a piston lower part may include producing at least the piston lower part as a forged steel part. A partial cross section of a cooling duct may be provided in the piston lower part. A closed supply inlet funnel may be forged within the piston lower part. The closed supply inlet funnel may be bored into the piston lower part from the cooling duct. A borehole may be introduced into the piston lower part obliquely to a piston axis. The piston lower part and the piston upper part may be welded to one another.

Method for manufacturing a piston

A piston for an internal combustion engine may include a piston body including a piston skirt, a piston head, and a pocket. The piston head may include a cooling channel for receiving a cooling medium. The cooling channel may be open on a side facing away from a piston crown. The piston may also include at least one cooling channel cover at least partially closing the cooling channel, and a piston pin boss having a boss bore configured to accommodate a piston pin. The piston may further include a piston pin lubricating channel fluidically connected to the cooling channel and extending in a direction of the piston pin. The pocket may at least partially define the piston pin lubricating channel. The at least one cooling channel cover may have at least one lug that is offset radially inward and may, together with the pocket, define the piston pin lubricating channel.

A method for producing a piston for an internal combustion engine may include the steps of: producing a first blank corresponding to a piston main body via a deformation process; producing a second blank corresponding to a piston ring part via at least one of a deformation process and a casting process; pre-machining the first blank and the second blank, and finishing a welding surface of the first blank and a welding surface of the second blank via machining; connecting the first blank and the second blank via welding the welding surface of the first blank to the welding surface of the second blank to form a piston body; and performing at least one of a secondary machining process and a finish machining process on the piston body to produce the piston.

A method for producing a piston for an internal combustion engine may include the steps of: producing a piston upper part from a first blank via a deformation process; producing a piston lower part from a second blank via at least one of a deformation process and a casting process; connecting the first blank of the piston upper part and the second blank of the piston lower part to form a piston body via a welding process; and performing at least one of a secondary machining process and a finish machining process of the piston body to produce the piston.

An assembly for cooling oil for an internal combustion engine may include a piston having a piston head and a piston skirt. The piston head may include a piston crown with an undersurface having an outer region configured as a guiding surface for the cooling oil, a circumferential ring part, and, in a region of the circumferential ring part, a circumferential cooling channel with at least one feed opening for the cooling oil. The assembly may also include a first oil spray nozzle for creating a first cooling oil jet directed at the feed opening, and a second oil spray nozzle for creating a second cooling oil jet directed at the guiding surface such that the second cooling oil jet may deflect and flow along the guiding surface in a direction of the undersurface. At least the first oil spray nozzle may be positioned below the piston skirt.

Assembly of a piston and an oil spray nozzle for an internal combustion engine

A cooling channel cover for a piston of an internal combustion engine may include a body having mutually opposite end faces. At least one supply element for a coolant may be received in an opening disposed in the cooling channel cover. The supply element may include an inlet region and an outlet region, and may be held on the cooling channel cover via a clipped-in latching connection. A spring tab may be disposed on the inlet region of the supply element, and/or a latching element may be disposed on the outlet region of the supply element. The spring clip may engage one of the end faces and the latching element may engage the opposite end face.

A piston for an internal combustion engine may include a piston crown and a piston skirt. The piston crown may include a piston head, a peripheral top land, a peripheral annular zone having a plurality of annular grooves and an annular closed cooling channel. The cooling channel may include a cooling channel base and a cooling channel cover. The cooling channel base may be arranged above the lower annular groove in relation to a region of combustion.

A method for producing a piston for an internal combustion engine may include the steps of: producing a piston main body from a first blank via a deformation process; producing a piston ring part from a second blank via at least one of a deformation process and a casting process; pre-machining the first blank and the second blank, and finish machining a welding surface of the first blank and a welding surface of the second blank; connecting the pre-machined first blank and the pre-machined second blank via a welding process to form a piston body; and performing at least one of a secondary machining and a finish machining of the piston body to produce the piston.

A method for the production of a piston made of steel, for an internal combustion engine, in which the upper piston part is produced using the forging method, and the lower piston part is produced using the forging or casting method, and they are subsequently welded to one another. To simplify the production method and make it cheaper, the upper piston part is forged using the method of hot forming and of cold calibration, to finish it to such an extent that further processing of the combustion bowl and of the upper cooling channel regions can be eliminated.

Method for the production of a piston for an internal combustion engine

An annular cooling channel cover for a piston may include an elastic material body having opposing end faces. At least two opposing end regions may provide a joint gap and at least one feed element for a coolant may be received in at least one opening disposed in the cooling channel cover. The feed element may include an inlet region and an outlet region, and may be held on the cooling channel cover via a clip-on latching connection. Spring clips may be disposed on the inlet region of the feed element, and/or latching elements may be disposed on the outlet region of the feed element. The spring clips may engage one of the end faces and the latching elements may engage the opposing end face. A closure element may engage into the joint gap to close the same.
