An insulation pack for thermally and acoustically insulating an aircraft has a mat formed from an insulation material, and a casing film which completely encases the mat. The casing film has drying openings, each closable a cover that is connected to the casing film. Each cover has a coating substance, the planar extent of which varying as a function of the relative air humidity of the air in the interior of the insulation pack such that each cover moves relative to the casing film, as a function of air humidity. The associated covers are adapted for assuming an orientation which, below a predetermined relative air humidity, closes the associated drying opening and which, at higher relative air humidity values, at least partially opens the associated drying opening.

An aircraft fuselage includes at least one space arranged in the aircraft fuselage and at least one wall. The wall resists burnthrough for a period of at least four minutes from outside the aircraft fuselage towards the space, wherein the region of the aircraft fuselage underneath the space does not include burnthrough-resistant insulation. The space may be a cargo compartment of the aircraft or a passenger cabin, while the wall may be designed as a cargo compartment floor, passenger cabin floor or wing/fuselage fairing (belly fairing). The design of the aircraft fuselage results in burnthrough resistance that meets the requirements of FAR &#xa7;25.856 (b) without any additional burnthrough-resistant insulation in the aircraft fuselage.

The present disclosure is directed to the use of certain glycosyltransferase variants having N-terminal truncation deletions. Contrary to previous findings certain truncations were found to exhibit sialidase enzymatic activity, particularly a variant of human sialyltransferase (hST6Gal-I) with a truncation deletion involving the first 89 N-terminal amino acids of the respective wild-type polypeptide. A fundamental finding documented in the present disclosure is that there exists a variant of this enzyme which is capable of catalyzing transfer of a glycosyl moiety as well as hydrolysis thereof. Thus, disclosed is a specific exemplary variant of mammalian glycosyltransferase, nucleic acids encoding the same, methods and means for recombinantly producing the variant of mammalian glycosyltransferase and use thereof, particularly for sialylating in a quantitatively controlled manner terminal acceptor groups of glycan moieties being part of glycoproteins such as immunoglobulins.

The present disclosure is directed to the use of certain glycosyltransferase variants having N-terminal truncation deletions. It was found that the combination of two different truncation variants of human &#x3b2;-galactoside-&#x3b1;-2,6-sialyltransferase I (hST6Gal-I) exhibited different specific sialyltransferase enzymatic activities. In one example, under conditions wherein the first variant &#x394;89 hST6Gal-I catalyzed formation of bi-sialylated target molecules the second variant &#x394;108 hST6Gal-I catalyzed formation of mono-sialylated target molecules. Thus, disclosed are variants of mammalian glycosyltransferase, nucleic acids encoding the same, methods and means for recombinantly producing the variants of mammalian glycosyltransferase and use thereof, particularly for sialylating in a quantitatively controlled manner terminal acceptor groups of glycan moieties being part of glycoproteins such as immunoglobulins.

An insulation arrangement with two or more insulation packages that overlap such that at least one overlapping region is formed and are arrangeable on a fuselage wall is provided. The insulation packages comprise an insulating material and welded cover films. The cover films are realized in an airtight and waterproof fashion and comprise ventilation openings on a side that is directed toward the fuselage wall in an overlapping region. In this way, pressure variations in the insulation packages can be compensated with relatively dry air that originates from a gap between the insulation packages and the fuselage wall in order to thusly reduce the accumulation of condensation water in the insulation packages.

An insulation arrangement for thermally and acoustically insulating an aircraft fuselage, which comprises at least one insulation packet arranged on an exterior skin of the aircraft. The insulation packet includes dimensionally rigid foam, and comprises a shape corresponding at least with a structural component on the exterior skin, as the result of which the insulation packet is retained on the structural component even without any additional attachment elements. As a result, ventilation openings need not be provided, thereby reducing condensation water accumulating in aircraft insulation.

An insulation package is provided for insulating a cabin of a vehicle that includes, but is not limited to at least one wrapping foil and at least one core layer of an insulation material. The wrapping foil envelopes the core layer at least in some regions and includes, but is not limited to at least one opening for feeding-through a holding element. On the wrapping foil a fastening element is arranged that is designed to establish a mechanical connection with the holding element fed through the opening. This can be a positive-locking or a non-positive-locking connection. By integrating the fastening element in the insulation package, the expenditure for separate fasteners can be saved so that the installation time and the different components can be reduced.

The design and attachment of an insulation package near the fuselage structure to protect the cabin region of an aircraft against fire acting on the insulation package from outside the aircraft environment, thus clearly facilitating evacuation of the passengers from the vehicle. The insulation package arrangement may comprise several fuselage insulation packages of an elongated form. These packages may adjoin the aircraft fuselage structure in the direction of the longitudinal axis of the aircraft. They may be completely enclosed by a burn-through-proof foil which is arranged in a space enclosed by interior paneling and by the panels of the outer skin.
