A circuit breaker system includes a first circuit breaker and a second circuit breaker. The first circuit breaker has a first trip unit, a first control unit, and a first electrical sensor. The first control unit is configured to control the first trip unit. The second circuit breaker has a second trip unit, a second control unit, and a second electrical sensor. The second control unit is configured to control the second trip unit. The first control unit is in communication with the second control unit. The first control unit is configured to monitor the communication with the second control unit to determine whether there is an internal device failure in the second circuit breaker. The first control unit is configured to change the first control unit's standard tripping characteristics to emergency tripping characteristics based on detecting the internal device failure of the second circuit breaker.

Circuit breaker system

A residual current circuit breaker having a core-balance current transformer for detecting a residual current, wherein a secondary winding is arranged on a core of the core-balance element transformer, wherein the residual current circuit breaker has an AC measurement arrangement and a DC measurement arrangement, wherein the AC and DC measurement arrangements are designed to operate simultaneously and in parallel.

Residual-current circuit breaker

A residual-current circuit breaker includes at least one summation current transformer through which at least one first lead and one second lead of a network to be protected are guided. At least one secondary winding is arranged on the summation current transformer and operatively connected at least indirectly with at least one energy storage element. At least one discharging resistor is switched in parallel with the energy storage element. The residual-current circuit breaker has a trip element which is operatively connected with break contacts in the at least one first lead and the at least one second lead. In order to reduce unexpected cut-offs of a network to be protected, the at least one discharging resistor includes a first partial resistor, and a second partial resistor switched in series with respect to the first partial resistor, with a least one electric signaling device operatively connected, at least indirectly, with the first partial resistor.

A residual-current circuit breaker includes a summation current transformer having a core, a first secondary winding wound onto the core, and at least one second secondary winding wound onto the core, with lines of an electric network to be protected extending through the core. A tripping apparatus is operably connected to break contacts for opening the break contacts. A first arrangement is provided for detecting alternating residual currents and connected to the first secondary winding of the summation transformer. A second arrangement is connected to the second secondary winding for detecting direct residual currents, wherein a predeterminable alternating operation of the first and second arrangements is controlled by a timer device.

A differential-current switch includes a first unit arranged in an electric power supply network for detecting a differential current and outputting an analog differential current signal, an analog-to-digital converter receiving the outputted analog differential current signal and converting the outputted analog differential current signal to a digital differential current signal, a first digital signal processing unit receiving the digital differential current signal, a second unit for disconnecting circuit breaker contacts in the electric power supply network, and first means connected upstream of the analog-to-digital converter for adjusting the analog differential current signal. Adjustment of the analog differential current signal provides favorable resolution of a differential current signal over a wide dynamic range.
