Switching and switchover devices for DC networks make it possible to realize, particularly in the event of faults, rapid and reliable switching processes in combination with good overvoltage damping and low energy losses during normal operation. The switching devices furthermore have short turn-off times and require no cooling since they have no on-state power losses during normal operation.

Circuit arrangements for electronically controlled DC grids

A submodule of a high-voltage inverter has a first sub-unit with a first energy storage device, a first series circuit of two power semiconductor switching units connected in parallel with the first energy storage device, each including a switchable power semiconductor, having the same pass-through direction, and each being conductive opposite the nominal pass-through direction. A first connection terminal is connected to the potential point between the power semiconductor switching units of the first series circuit. A second sub-unit has a second energy storage device, a second series circuit of two power semiconductor switching units connected in parallel with the second energy storage device, each including a switchable power semiconductor, having the same pass-through direction, and each being conductive opposite the nominal pass-through direction. A second connection terminal is connected to the potential point between the power semiconductor switching units of the second series circuit, limiting short circuit currents quickly, reliably, and effectively in case of a fault. The first and second sub-units are connected to each other by connections designed such that a current flow between the first connection terminal and the second connection terminal in both directions takes place only via the first energy storage device and/or the second energy storage device in a selected switching state of all power semiconductor switching units.

Using a switch-on command, it is possible to balance the voltage sharing on the non-latching power semiconductor switches of a turn-off power converter valve having at least two series connections.

A low-inductance bus bar arrangement includes at least n+1 individual bus bars for establishing a quick connection of modular components of n dependent circuits. The n+1 individual bus bars are stacked upon each other and are electrically separated from each other by insulation. The two outermost bus bars are electrically connected to each other by an appropriate connecting device. While the several modular components of the n dependent circuits are quickly connectable to the bus bar, the bus bar itself provides an inherently low inductance.

Control power for driving semiconductor power components is transmitted by means of a pulse sequence. The same pulse sequence also contains the control information which has been impressed thereon by modulation. During transmission, the potentials of the control power and control information are separated by a transformer. The pulse sequence is subsequently rectified and demodulated after the potential-separated transmission. The recovered control information is then delivered to the components after demodulation.

This invention concerns a procedure to operate a turn-off thyristor which can be set to a current-conducting state or a current-blocking state as a function of a switch-on command or a switch-off command. To permit particularly reliable and optimal operation of the turn-off thyristor, the voltage between its gate terminal, G, and its cathode terminal, K, is detected and when it drops below a negative threshold current value U.sub.GKS, a status signal, Z, is generated which indicates the current-blocking state of the turn-off thyristor. A further embodiment detects the gate current of the turn-off thyristor and after the appearance of the switch-off command, the status signal is generated as the polarity changes in accordance with the time derivative of the gate current. An overload of the turn-off thyristor is best recognized by having simultaneous to the appearance of the switch-off command, a time function with a preset expiration time initiated, and having a malfunction notification signal, F, generated for protective ignition of the turn-off thyristor if the time function expires prior to the appearance of the status signal.
