A floor sweeper is provided. The sweeper includes a frame having a corner portion. A hub member is mounted at the corner portion for rotation about an upright axis which is inclined to the horizontal. The hub has a circumferential side face and an underside with faces toward a surface to be swept. An annulus of bristles projects from the sideface of the hub member. The bristles have free end portions projecting downwardly beyond the underside so that increments of the annulus consecutively contact the surface to be swept because of the inclination of the axis. An annulus of radially extending teeth are connected to the underside of the hub member from which they extend downwardly to thereby engage the surface to be swept so as to rotate the hub member.

A cylindrical brush is mounted in a housing of a carpet-sweeping device for rotation about an axis extending transversely of the direction of movement of the device over the surface to be cleaned. Two dirt-collecting receptacles are located respectively at a front region of the housing and at a rear region of the housing as considered along this direction. Each dirt-collecting receptacle has an opening bounded on all sides by a plurality of walls and each receptacle is mounted for pivoting movement on the housing between a filling position in which the respective opening is located in a path in which dirt from the surface being swept travels into the receptacle, and a discharging position in which the opening is located out of the path so as to permit discharging of any deposited dirt from the receptacle. Each receptacle is lockable in its filling position, and each receptacle has top, bottom and rear walls which overlie open top, bottom, and end regions of recesses provided in the housing when a respective receptacle is locked in its filling position. An inclined guide wall may be provided at the opening for guiding the dirt from the brush into the receptacle.

Carpet sweeper

A housing has an open front side, and one or more arms are provided, each having two ends and a length sufficient to permit a plurality of adjacent ties to be hung from the respective arm. Pivot pins mount these arms at one end within the housing so that the arms can be pivoted outwardly of the housing to an access position and can be pivoted into the housing to a storage position in which the opposite ends of the respective arms are supported on a portion of the housing.
