A glass tube for pharmaceutical containers and a manufacturing process for a glass tube are provided. The glass tubes are characterized by a homogenous and low alkali leachability on the inner surface.

A glass has a maximum crystallization rate (KG) of at most 0.20 μm/min in a temperature range of 700° C. to 1250° C. and a hydrolytic stability according to a hydrolytic class 1 HGA1 according to ISO 720:1985. In the case of a sample thickness of 2 mm of the glass, a ratio of a minimum transmittance in a wavelength range of 850 nm to 950 nm to a maximum transmittance in a wavelength range of 250 nm to 700 nm is in a range of 1.9:1 to 15:1.

A glass article is designed at least in part in the form of a glass tube element including at least one shell which encloses at least one lumen. For at least one light transmission analysis of the glass article, a ratio of an average amplitude transmission factor and a specific amplitude transmission factor is greater than 1.00001.

An apparatus for forming glass tubes is provided. The apparatus includes a Danner-pipe, a heating device, and a heating chamber having the Danner-pipe and the heating device arranged therein. The Danner-pipe is inclined with respect to a horizontal plane by a Danner-angle. The heating device is inclined with respect to the horizontal plane by a heating-angle. The Danner-angle and/or the heating angle are in a range of 1° to 45°.

The invention relates to glass articles, such as for example glass tubes or flat glasses, where the material at the surface by a targeted process control has gradient material properties which in turn result in a compressive prestress of the surface. The invention also relates to a method for the production of the glass articles as well as their use.

Prestress by use of a gradient material

A chemically temperable borosilicate glass article has a low boron content and a corresponding NaO content. The articles have good diffusivities and hydrolytical resistance values. When chemically tempered, the borosilicate glass article exhibits a compressive stress CS &#x3e;400 MPa and a penetration depth DoL &#x3e;20 &#x3bc;m. A pharmaceutical primary packaging including the borosilicate glass article is also disclosed.

Borosilicate glass article with low boron content

Glasses and glass products suitable for pharmaceutical packaging are provided and methods of making and using such glass and glass products are provided. The glasses combine chemical temperability with very good hydrolytic resistance as well as reduced color tinge. The invention also includes methods for the production of such glasses and their uses.

The invention relates to a process for producing alkali metal-rich aluminosilicate glasses having a content (in mol % based on oxide) of alkali metal oxides of 4-16 mol %, of AlOof at least 4 mol % and of BOof 0-4 mol %, wherein 0.15 mol % to 0.9 mol % of chloride(s) and at least one refining agent from the group of sulfate(s) (reported as SO), CeOare added to the glass batch and wherein the sum total of refining agents added in the batch is 0.17 mol % to 1.3 mol %.

A pharmaceutical packaging is provided including a glass, comprising at least the following components (given in mol % on oxide basis): SiO: 5 9-84, AlO: 7-18.5, CaO: 1-25, SrO: 0-6.5, BaO: 0-5, ZrO: 0-3, TiO: 0-5, BO: 0-1, wherein the ratio (CaO+SrO+BaO)/AlO&#x3c;2.8, wherein the ratio (CaO+SrO+BaO)/SiO&#x2264;0.39, wherein the hydrolytic resistance according to DIN ISO 720 is class HGA 1, and wherein the glass, apart from unavoidable contaminations, is free of alkali oxides and magnesium oxides.

Pharmaceutical packaging comprising a chemically resistant glass

A zirconium-free neutral glass is provided that finds use in the pharmaceutical sector. The glass has a combination of alkali metal oxides of sodium, potassium and optionally lithium, and a controlled amount of aluminum oxide, which provides a zirconium-free and low-boron neutral glass having good hydrolytic stability, good acid and alkali stability and good devitrification properties. The glass includes the following components in % by weight:

Borosilicate glasses, preferably for use in the pharmaceutical sector, are provided. The borosilicate glasses are outstandingly suitable for the use as pharmaceutical primary packaging, such as phials or ampoules, since the aqueous or water-containing medicaments kept in the containers do not attack the glass significantly, and so the glass releases no, or only few, ions. The method produces glass tubes having a predetermined inner profile according to a Vello-method or Down-Draw method, wherein molten glass emerges from an outlet orifice of a melt feed and is drawn over a shaping body to form a hollow drawing bulb, and the drawing bulb is drawn over a profile forming body downstream of the shaping body to form the predetermined inner profile. To enable a reliable, risk-free positioning of the profile forming body within the drawing bulb, the profile forming body is axially moved either from below the shaping body via an inner space of the glass tube or via an inner bore of a shaft supporting the shaping body until reaching an operational position in the inner space of the glass tube. A heating apparatus for the conductive heating of melts, in particular for the rapid melting-down, refining and/or conditioning of melts, is provided. The heating apparatus includes at least one electrode, as well as a first cooling system with a cooling power, which can be set and/or controlled variably.

The apparatus for reduced-pressure refining of a glass melt includes a refining bank formed so that a reduced pressure is generated by a glass flow in it. The refining bank has a component, which is made from a refractory metal or refractory alloy acting as glass-contact material. The refractory metal or alloy contains molybdenum, tungsten, tantalum, and/or hafnium. The device of the present invention includes a protective gas reservoir for a protective gas and an automatically operating valve connecting the reservoir with the refining bank so that an inner side of the component that would otherwise be exposed when a pressure rise or a falling glass melt column occurs is protected from oxidation by the protective gas. A process for using the device during refining of the glass melt is also part of the invention.

Method and device for refining a glass melt using negative pressure

The invention concerns a process and a device from the production of molten glass. According to the invention, measures will be taken to lead the current of the molten glass through the tank furnace so that cutoffs of the glass current between the surface of the glass bath, on the one hand, and the outlet opening on the other hand are avoided and a an equal holding period of all melt particles in the tank furnace is achieved.
