Ultra-fine-grained thermoplastics such as polyolefins, for example, having an average particle size D of less than 400 &mgr;m and are present in a mixture along with a filler where the amount of filler material in the mixture amounts to 40 to 90% with respect to the mixture. As such ultra-fine-grained thermoplastics cannot be obtained by means of the normal milling process of if so then only with considerable expenditure, the process for manufacturing ultrafine-grained thermoplastics is performed in such a manner that a mixture containing 10 to 60 wt. % thermoplastics with respect to the mixture and 40 to 90 wt.% filler material with respect to the mixture is ground e.g. in an impact pulverizer, as a result of which thermoplastic particles with an average particle size D less than 400 &mgr;m are produced.

Composite panels with high fire-proofing capacity have two outer layers and a core that features a core mixture containing aluminum hydroxide in compacted form, lightweight fillers, in some cases fine grained or splintery aluminum hydroxide, as desired magnesium hydroxide and polymer-based binding agents. The composite panels are suitable e.g. as facade panels for building constructions.

Composite panels with high fire-proofing capacity have two outer layers and a core that features a core mixture containing aluminum hydroxide in compacted form, lightweight fillers, in some cases fine gained or splintery aluminum hydroxide, as desired magnesium hydroxide and polymer-based binding agents. The composite panels are suitable e.g. as facade panels for building constructions.

The invention relates to a process for protecting sensitive surfaces from mechanical and physical effects, in particular the effects of pressure and/or heat, whereby the surfaces are covered by a protective layer during the application of pressure and/or heat. The protective layer is a thermoplastic or elastic plastic that is molten, plastic or elastic under the conditions of applied pressure and/or heat, and has a lower resistance to deformation than the surface to be protected.

For a continuous production of the composite panel (86) in one operation, the core mixture (24) is poured onto an inrunning lower cover strip (48), in contact with a lower adhesive film (16) facing the core mixture (24), and a pile is formed there, extending over the entire width of the adhesive film, both [lacuna] continuously and uniformly drawn through a V gap (40) and compacted there for the first time and calibrated to thickness, an upper adhesive film (30), upwardly limiting the precompacted core mixture (24'), is fed in and brought into contact with a continuously fed cover strip (46) and the sandwich is pressed with further compaction, heated, cooled and cut to the final length of the composite panel (86). The apparatus for carrying out the process preferably comprises a double-belt press (43 ) for the concluding pressing and heating, for maintaining the temperature and for cooling.

Apparatus for the production of a flame resistant to nonflammable

A flame resistant to nonflammable composite panel is produced from a nonextrudable core mixture with a pourable, nonflammable filling material and a binder, and on both sides cover strips, flexibly bonded to the core. For a continuous production of the composite panel in one operation, the core mixture is poured onto a flexible lower adhesive film, supported as it runs in, and a pile extending over the entire width forms there. Between the lower adhesive film and a flexible upper adhesive film, likewise supported as it runs in, material of the core mixture is continuously and uniformly drawn through a V gap and compacted there for the first time and calibrated to thickness. The adhesive films containing the precompacted core mixture are adhesively bonded to the continuously fed cover strips. The apparatus comprises a stretching roller for each of the adhesive films, a device for the uniform application of the core mixture, first means for forming a settable running-in angle and the V gap, second means for supporting the lower adhesive film and third means for the concluding pressing and heating, as well as a device for cutting to length.

A butt joint employing a connecting element (3). The connecting element (3) is situated in a space formed by grooves (14,24) running along the abutting ends (40,42) of the panels (1,2) and/or sections (1a,2a). There are two expansion sections (31,32) with at least one interposed spring element (33), said sections (31,32) being displaceable in the direction of the surfaces (122,132,222,232) of the outer components of the panels (1,2) or sections (1a,2a) to which the expansion sections (31,32) can be adhesively bonded. These sections (31,32) have means for releaseable interlocking via tensed spring element/elements (33), and are such that the tensed, interlocked expansion sections (31,32) can be introduced with room for play in the grooves (14,24). The surfaces of the butt joints appear to have no interuption. The application lies in vehicle manufacture, architecture and civil engineering.
